I'm actually not surprised very much because (from what I understand) the Prius engages it's gas motor under heavy throttle which is what happened since they said in the video that they were driving the Prius as hard as they could. I'm sure the batteries were kicking in the entire time, but the Prius is just not engineered to be driven like that, whereas the BMW is.

It is so funny to listen to people to mindlessly catagorize others by what they drive. When I drive my 4Runner people in economy cars look at me like I just personally burned down the rain forest. Then when I drive my wife's Prius people in 4x4's look at me like I don't have a my male parts.
If you like what you drive... great. Its all good.
The comparison is idiotic. Driving a Prius like that is just crazy. Not at all designed for that. I don't care how gingerly you drive that beautiful M3, you could not get 48.5mpg out of it like we do driving our Prius normally.

I agree with you 100% here. Why insult people just because they drive economy car. :shake:
If all your driving is in and out of mad traffic or around town all day long, why not got the most economical car you can afford. You dont have to be a gay hippie to drive a hybrid.
You always hear people raging on Prius drivers, but for some reason I dont hear so much about hybrid Accords or Civics. There's dozens of other hybrid cars and SUV's out there too.

I don't think the comparison is idiotic at all. Its not a comparison of vehicles at all. Its a test to demonstrate to people that driving style makes a huge impact on your fuel mileage. And that rather that changing your car... Change your driving style.

True true. Driving style plays a huge part of mpg. No doubt about it.
If we baby the Prius we can get well over 50mpg but who wants to drive like that. No fun at all.

You all want a economy car. Try this... 1955 Messerschmitt KR-200. Right around 100mpg. In the 50's!!! Why cant we do that now. Today getting 48.5mpg in your hybrid is big stuff.

Today we have 5 start crash ratings, air bags, AC, stereos, sound insulation... Cars are a lot safer but heavier today which hurts MPG.
