My 4Runner came with an aftermarket 2" receiver and the 2" hole is a little too big. I have a trailer, bike hitch and cargo basket that all rattle around while mounted. I have a seen a few little gizmos out there that are supposed to eliminate the rattle but have never used any of them. What about you guys? Do you have any experience?

It's just getting a little old, especially when the trailer is loaded, you can feel it in the frame of the vehicle.

Just to make it clear I have am using the correct sized pin and have tried 3 different hitches. I've even tried slipping a stretched bike tube over the hitch to shim it up but that was too thick.

What about something like this:

There are a few options on here:

Maybe something like this but it just looks hokey and cheap:

Get the idea? I just didn't want to go wasting money on gimicky stuff.
Also, what about drilling a hole in the reciever and tapping it. I could put a bolt in there, snug it up and hopefully take up the play. Maybe?

That was going to be my suggestion.

I might try it. The metal is thick enough, I think. I'd have to use a bolt with a large enough diameter to prevent it getting pushed out. I'm thinking 2 bolts, like on at the 12:00 position and one at 3 or 9. Problem is that I'd have some holes and bolts to worry about. The nice thing about the hokey one is that it slips right on and hand tightens, which actually might be it's down fall.

If the metal isn't thick enough to tap for that bolt, just weld a nut over the hole instead.

Both stepdad and I tow stuff, and end up turning our radio's louder to over come that dang slop noise!
I will have to get on this and get it done!

Thanks for sharing!

I noticed that when I took the picture. I routed the wire below the receiver tube but it looks like they have creeped up. None of my hitches go all the way to the back so I'm clueless as to what worn it down. They're to my LED rocklights below the bumper.

You might want jam nuts on those bolts to keep them from vibing out.

I tow my '84 Runner on a trailer with my Tacoma.... so I have the same slop, but have a lot more to worry about than that, but thanks for the info!!! :)
