Let's get a thread started specifically about how you've mounted your GPS in your rig.

Post a pic and state your vehicle model and what model GPS you have along with specifics on the mount (mount points or RAM mount part #'s for example). I'd like this thread to grow into a resource for new GPS owners.

I personally want to see how people have mounted thier Garmin 60CSX GPS. :D

Dell Axim PDA GPS in a Seidio charging cradle. The cradle is held to the dash with a ProClip touchless mount. This held up to the worst in Death Valley, so it should stay-put in just about any situation, on road or off. It is also legal in all states--some states are cracking down on windshield mounts.

Vehicle: 99 4runner
GPS: Garmin 60CXs
Mount: RAM Mounting Systems Handlebar Mount for Garmin GPS 60CXs
Location: Driver Side Grab Handle

My wife got me the handlebar mount for Christmas and I rigged this set up for fun.

I’m going to get this piece below to move it left so it’s not blocking so much of my view.

This socket will go on the back of the GPS mount and then connect to the ball on the handle. It should move it over almost 4”

Vehicle: 93 4runner (also used in the 07 Tacoma and 89 Van)
GPS: Garmin Etrex Legend
Mount: Universal Ipod, GPS, PDA windshield mount from ebay
Location: Windshield

I mount it in about the same location when I use it in the van and the tacoma, but I don't think I have any pics of those vehicles with it mounted.

Yeah I moved mine up a bit
have to take new pics,
but I like it there only cause I really don't like anything in my line of site,
heck, when my power whip got bent and I just took the entire assembly out, even me rear whip for the cb is in an area wher ei can't see it out my side mirror or my review, it just felt comfortable I guess...

Your odd that way ya know, I coulda made a mount really easy for ya but you insisted it not be in your line of sight.

The higher spot doesnt bother me to much for the GPS, i generally dont look in my lower lefthand corner unless its there.

This is NOT my truck, but an image I scavenged from the internet in the name of idea-gathering.

It's a 2005+ Tacoma, Garmin 60CSx, and a RAM mount fitted to the triangular trim cover on the door... 4Runners can't do this since y'all have tweeter mounted in your door right there. However, you could use a RAM diamond mount bolted through the A-pillar trim cover with a backing plate for support. That might also draw the GPS unit away from the steering wheel and keep you from slapping it with your hand when you make sharp turns.

having 2 aftermarket head units and 2 gps stolen(one with all my fishing spots for 3 years) in the past, i would not recommend any method of mount your gps in plain sight, even you live in a NICE area.

When I got the Garmin stolen, the vehicle was parked inside a parking garage at LB Convention Center, 50 yards away from the guard booth, i had the gps unit placed in the glovebox but kept the suction mount on the windshield. no only i lost the gps, also the small window on the back door. Most insurance policies don't cover add-on items such as gps, off road lights, etc.

Just proceed with caution.

Oh my GPS does not stay there when I am out of the truck.
It goes into the glove box and gets locked, or if I have my backpack, comes with me

I have to strongly agree and go beyond somewhat - I've never had anything stolen (yet)(crosses fingers) because I've never had a GPS mounted in the usual windshield/side pillar mounting places. Why? Because, where I used to live and in the areas that I still have to frequent, taking the mount with you and all signs of the GPS once being there is, sadly, not enough.

Some crooks do this: they'll see the GPS mounted in your windshield, take a chance and follow you ( maybe you're not going far) when you park up and stow away ALL signs of the GPS...they don't know if you've taken it with you or simply put it away. Goodbye window. at least.

So, I've always had it down here:

It works for me. GPS is a Garmin Nuvi 770. The 3M mounting disk is the only potential give-away.

It actually is the Knight Rider GPS. It has the original voice of KITT. Nothing like having KITT tell you where to go. It is a pretty good unit and i am pleased.

Mine is mounted to the dash with a hard mount on a swivel. Those suction cup deals never stay when thrashing through the ruff stuff.http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/84/l_627389e299f64381b1ab79d146cb39f3.jpg

Criminals don't put in that much effort. Most just look through the parking lot for the ring left by the suction cup on the windshield.
I'd rather be on the road with a teenager texting than someone who has their GPS mounted on the floor.

I have had mine mounted in my E250 work van for ages right on the windshield. I just take the actual GPS off and leave the bracket, no issues. But I always lock my stuff and you cant really see the bracket to well in the window.

Are you sure on that download fact?? My research has shown me that you can only get select maps from Kenwood, you cannot download your own (gpx, usr, ect) onto it. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

I'll try to get some pics soon. I've just got my GPS mounted on the windshield under the rear view mirror. Simple Garmin Nuvi 255.

I think I might mount it by the a-pillar and hook the power up directly to the fuse box. If I ever have the time.
