Oh that sucks, get to :wrenchin: Gotta love IFS. Is the carrier ok, so you can just get some new gears ?

man what happened? i would have thought wheeling in the snow is a low impact sort of wheeling.

You'd think so, but often the wheels spin up and then suddenly bite hard and stuff can break in the process.

depends on how you drive - problem is, sometimes you can't see what's under the snow - add to that wheel spin and the shock load from suddenly getting traction, drifting into snow or ice banks, and higher diff temps from snow/ice getting packed in around it (little air movement) . . .

i would think the cv's would be the first to fail,
I thought the diffs were the weakest point on an IFS system...

NO LOCKER IN THE FRONT for me hahah im just keepin it together till it gets cut off

i already got a used front diff from someone, put my spare axles in, will put new boot kits on the old ones since they tore from snow packin in there, so ive been driving it.

amazingly i never broke a cv yet. i kinda knew this diff was gonna blow. i changed my fluids to royal purple a month or 2 ago and had a lil peice of gear from the axle side gear stuck to the magnet. so when i was in 4lo 2nd gear hammering up a snow hill the truck hopped a tiny bit up front and went boom. i thought it was an axle at first, till i got out and looked. so i saved the remainder of my 4wd for a hill on the way back and thats when it really went bang and no more 4wd. had to 2wd out of the trail. and drive 2 hrs home, shizzle was sketchy

Why would you be "hammering" in 4lo? Doesn't that put unnecessary strain on the driveline?

I do it quite often at the dunes and could see how you would be doing that while snow wheeling. Taking your rig offroad also puts strain on your driveline. :flipoff:

......um....have you ever been offroad before? :headscratch:
should i hammer it in 4hi and stall?
