My 99 4 Runner has a terrible problem with the windows fogging up in cool to cold weather. It is almost dangerous it is so bad. although i let it warm up after a while all of the rear windows are foggy or icy (in the winter) on the inside and it is all i can do to keep the front windshield clear. it is so hot in the car i can't wear my coat because i have to keep the defrost heat going just to see. Does anyone else have this problem ?? There does not seem to be any cold air coming in from the doors or the seals. if i crack a window it can help, a little, sometimes but not enough to remove the fog. I don't want to just put anti fog on it i would like to fix the problem?? Who could i go to for help? is there a mechanic that could figure something like this out?? Any thoughts would help.

Always had this issue in any import car, its b/c on american cars when you hit defrost it automatically turns on your a/c compressor.

Turn on the AC and also turn on the recirculate air position, should help. I also know keeping the windows clean and making sure you keep the temp inside the car more attune to the outside (as close as you can be without being uncomfortable)helps.

Having the whole car heated works better than just your windshield too.

If its fogging while the defrost is on, then maybe look towards a heater core problem. I know when my core had a leak it fogged the windows worse. Check under the dash for any signs of a leak, as well as AC componants. Or any lines to the rear.

Kinda weird, but there is a spot on one of my back door windows that never fogs up. It's in the shape of a 3" circle and looks like the previous owner had a sticker placed there. Something about the remaining residue keeps that spot from fogging up. Pretty neat, IMHO. :hillbill:

Just saw that, guess I just elaborated huh? :D

No worries, yours was more detailed :)

FWIW when I ride my ATV I always wear these glasses goggles, I put shaving creme on them (PLAIN BARBARSOL) and polish it off, they dont fog up for many hours and trips. I reapply about once a month just to be sure.
