Hot Key - Key and Cylinder Hot to Touch

Here is a new one for you.

Went on a trip today, off-roading.
On my way home I stopped for gas.
Went to touch the key and about burned my finger print off my finger.
I have not done any electrical changes recently.
What if anything can cause this?
How can I trouble shoot it?

my key gets warm, just about every vehicle ive driven has resulted in a warm key.

mine has never done this before.

Stepdads nor moms lexus does either, and it wasn't just warm sean, it was almost like someone took a torch to it....

loose wire on the ignition switch, or worn contact ?.

that happened to me once and if i recall correctly, my heater tube behind the dash disconnected and was blowing hot air in that direction.

Warm, even possibly warm enough to lightly burn if you hold it long enough seems to be mostly normal. Both for the key, and for the cylinder, but as for feeling like someone took a torch to it, I think you are on your own Avy... Check what was mentioned before, and keep us updated....

I drove it today and it didn't do it...
I guess when I take a long trip again where the truck is pretty much running for a straight 12 hours I will see if it does it again....
