There's a recipe I want to try for a cranberry apple sundae and it calls for some Grand Marnier. The only problem is that stuff costs $40 per bottle and I ain't gonna spend that much for some dessert. Can you recommend another alcohol that can be substituted but is cheaper?

any orange liquor will work just fine. Go to the local liquor store and ask for orange schnapps. You can find cheapo bottles pretty easy.

will it flame up? That's the reason I want to try this recipe. It's got fire.

Just about anything with alcohol will flame up.
Easiest way to tell is to check the % per volume of the Grand Mariner, and then check the content of the schnapps. I'm betting the schnapps has more.
If its close, you'll get approximately the same amount of fire ball.
Post some pics, Pyro.

Orange schnapps should be close enough on the flavor.
On the flaming part, I have found that to be hit or miss. I think it is a banana's foster recipe that my father likes, it flames best with Korbel brandy. He tried cheap stuff and going for a big fire, but it wouldn't work.

well the flame part is easy. 40% is good, but for best results, look for a liquor with 50% or greater ABV.
Triple Sec is a good liquor to use.

Meatings?
haha.
I always haeard to produce a good flame keep it above 60% ABV.... but that could be because all my friends are pyro's....or alcoholics. you be the judge. :)

Yeah, that's who I was trying to summon with "chef's" in the title. Also, Cebby's wife because I know she's a caterer.

I thought that's why you added "pyro" in there. He made some awesome creme brule for dessert on Sat. He knows how to work a torch and sugar.

Hold it slosurfer, you're saying you all got Creme Brule all the way out in the desert? Dessert in the desert?
Hell yeah! That stuff was the shit! Josh is awesome, we all got our own little personal dish!

There's plenty to do there with 2wd and momentum, even without a locker. :hillbill:
