I've got a few quick pics from my trip to the dunes this past weekend. I don't have that many pictures because we were too busy duning it, but I'm working on making up a video too. Edit- Videos are done

Video 1- Multiple vehicle shots with music:

Sweet! Looks like fun!

I bet that SC 3.4 is a blast in the dunes.

Oh man, Glamis is huge! Driving from our camp to China Wall which is close to the southeastern boundary of where you can drive was about a 6 mile drive as the bird flies, which means it turns out to be more like 8-10 miles for someone on the ground. Driving to the sand drags from camp is something like 10 miles of dunes. It's awesome, the dunes west of Oldsmobile Hill are especially gigantic!

Pictures 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 are of "K12," one of the tallest points (or close to it) in Glamis. Elevation on top of it was something around 560 feet according to my GPS I think, and the dune's steep face is close to 200 feet of sheer soft sand (quite a challenge to get up in a 4Runner). Pictures 8 and 9 are on top of Oldsmobile Hill; it's peak elevation isn't as high as K12, but bottom to top its something like 300 feet tall.

Ah man I wish I could, but based on the fact that its about a 700 mile drive for me one-way it's going to have to be a once or maybe twice a year thing for me at most. I'm driving to Tucson for a wedding at the end of the month, so driving to Glamis again 2 weeks later ain't going to work.

Some other time maybe...

Here's the video I made of the trip (it's even HD). Go easy on me, it's the first one I've ever made :flipoff:

Nice job on the video.

Now let's see an all-4Runner one with no music. :D On second thought, don't do that. It will make me want a supercharger.

Yeah, I usually only get a couple seconds of footage because I'm the one driving... but I did get my friends to take some video here and there.

so now that you have it dialed in for the sand, are you going to join us for the pismo jamboree? :D

I doubt anyone here would mind if you posted it up.

I'm working on it :tongueout:. Encoding the video takes forever on my current computer, it's just not up to doing really heavy HD video editing (My camera records in 1920x1080 30p, so editing it takes horsepower this computer doesn't have). Planning on building myself a new machine in a month or two.

I 'm packing all the shots with my 4Runner in another vid, totals up to around 7 minutes and takes my computer 4 hours to re-encode the whole video from 1080-30p (AVCHD) to 720-25p with H-264 compressison.

I would love to, but driving to Pismo is even worse than Glamis... 1066 miles one-way :tapedshut:

If I ever move to SoCal, then I'll go.

That was awesome, well worth your effort, if you ask me. :P

I had no idea Glamis was that big. The only thing I have to compare it to is Pismo, which is overcrowded at times and often not safe.

The supercharger sounds mean on those hill climbs. Good job on the video, and thank you. :D

Glad you liked it :D That supercharger does put out some noise with the deckplate open. It would be louder at full throttle pushing max boost, but going full throttle basically just bounces you off the rev limiter so usually I'm only at 1/3 to 3/4 throttle.

Glamis is gigantic, it's incredible. The biggest dunes like China Wall, Oldsmobile Hill, and K12 pretty much dwarf anything at Pismo from what I understand.

Glamis Sand Dunes on Dirtopia (http://www.dirtopia.com/wiki/Glamis_Sand_Dunes). The Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area has over 100,000 acres open to OHV use.

Oceano Dunes SRVA (http://www.bob2000.com/pismo.htm) has about 1,500 acres open for OHV use.
