Hello all I have an 86 4runner with about 185K on the original motor that runs nice and strong. I recently noticed oil leaking from my motor. I recently made the drive to Superstition 11 and put about 400 hard miles with elevation changes from sea level to around 6-7 thousand feet. I noticed that after hard driving under load there is oil leaking onto the top of the alternator. I degreased the motor and have been watching it but cannot see any leak. If I drive it around town and on the freeway it doesn't cause the motor to leak. Has anyone had this problem. I have searched and doesn't seem to be the front seal because it's not throwing oil everywhere and onto the hood. I also read something about the PCV or the distributor seal. Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

Cheap and easy...try replacing the valve cover gasket. I just recently did mine on my 93 pickup and it made a huge difference.

the distributor o-ring (seal) would be a likely candidate - under hard driving there will naturaly be more blow-by past the piston rings which will increase pressure in the crankcase. Since it is likely that o-ring has never been changed it has probably lost any pliability and cannot seal anymore (more like plastic by now)
