Anyone run 5 pt belts, in thier 4 runner. Pics, tips, tricks ? I want to see how YOUR mounting them. I figure now is the time to put them in the 4-runner, while I am doing this exo-cage business.
Thanks

I've been wondering the same thing. Is it even possible to hook up a 5 point harness to a stock seat/stock interior?

you need to build a cross bar right behind where your shoulders will be, then you can run the strap over that and down to the floor - I have seen people run 4 pts like that with just a bar anchored to both "B" pillars, whether it was bolted to the shoulder belt point midway up or by sandwiching the inner "B" pillar with flat and several bolts spaced apart to distribute the load . . . as with anything though, unless they run to or over a roll bar, per whatever racing specs you want to follow, you are taking a risk -- but I'm sure you already know that

Kev, I'm sure you could come up with something much simpler than this, but for the benefit of everyone else . . . the ricer Harness Bar, available from many different sources.

Okay, another stupid question, so lets say you get some kind of bar, are you able to use stock seats or do you need "special" seats?
Mainly, I'm thinking ahead to when my kids are out of carseats. Right now they have 5points strapping them into their carseat.

You can use any seat you want with a 4 point harness, with a 5 point you need the hole for the "crotch strap" to come through the seat. You can use the stock seats with one of those interior bars, though if you have a 2 door it makes getting in and out of the back fun. As long as the seat itself does not prevent the straps from coming over properly (think goofy headrest or something like that), you should be fine

Thanks Keith. That makes sense about the seat and headrest. So do I just google "ricer bar" to find those? I'm just kidding. :D
Kevin, nice, I just skimmed that article and will definately get back to read the whole thing tonight.

It would suck to be a rear passenger without a 5 point in that car. After an accident you're likely to put a headsized form fit dent in that crossbar.

Nah, it's just an OH $h17! handle for the rear passengers

I got the belts yesterday, cool stuff.
I will be welding a bar between my interior hoop. I already got the tabs to weld on to the bar, so this will take care of the shoulder straps. I am going to pull the seats to have the wife modify, so the anti-submarine strap will come through the seat. The side straps are straight forward.
