I just wanted to start a "preplanning" thread for the pismo jambo. We are already planning stuff behind the scenes and will get an actual planning thread up here soon in the events section.
This is for any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, concerns, support, etc.... for stuff that you would like to see at this years Jambo.
Keep in mind that I can not control the weather/wind. :flipoff: On the other hand, we are working on something in that arena.
So let's hear what you have to say!
Just a couple sneak peaks:
Expect more from the gps challenge this year. (more emphasis on "challenge") expect some gps use threads in the near future as well
Organized night run!
etc.......
Edit: For those new to us or didn't make it last year. Check out last year's jambo: '08 Jambo Pics (http://www.ultimateyota.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=5625.0)

Cool. I doubt I'll have a 200 mile bike ride I want to do that day (like this past year) so I'll keep it in mind. We'll have a little one around by so we'll see how that works out as well.

Sweet! I'll have to see where I'm working and all, but it would be great to make it out there again for this. :D

If it is what you and Lance had suggested last year, it sounds like a cool idea.

Official day is March 11 but I'm thinking last week in February. She's getting big and I think the baby wants out. We're not sure on the gender so it'll be exciting.
Here she is last month or so out snowshoeing with is. The baby has gotten much bigger.

I plan on being there if I have to fly out again,
So I am going to have to hand with someone...
Probably be three weeks too since I know I have to take a leave of absence from school for the event and being that the leave of absence is for a phase period, and a phase period is 3 weeks, well you get the idea.
I will start thinking of things.
I def think the Clam Chowder was a big win and we should do that again.
As for the wind, well, if we can get everyone to park how we wanted them to park last time, then maybe that just might help.
I will think of other fun things as I am sure they will pop up,
but I am most looking forward to the organized night run if we have one :D

Pfft. Maybe that will work when someone *cough cough Chris* gets us a closer spot to the enterance. Oh and when douche bags driving huge motor homes dont get stuck :D

 Yeah, not going to happen. It gets too crowded down closer to the entrance. :D The motorhome just needs some bigger tires.

i'd suggest to have a "who has the most aux. lights contest" just for the kick of it. i don't know if i can make it or not this year, too early to say, but i'll keep it in mind

I believe I did try to contact SPOT last year and never got a reply back, but will try again. Garmin will be contacted this year for sure.

I'm looking forward to this years event! I think we're going to need to make other arrangements for a command post, as I probably won't have the motor home. Maybe I can rent one the 5th wheels that they tow out and set up for you. Then we could use that as the command post, too.

There is a slight possibility I may try to drive out - I would like to, anyway
Tony, Dan, Avi, anyone else: might want to keep in mind the possibility of a west bound caravan (I know I'm good for mega mile driving, and I think I remember Tony making good time from So Cal to Indy). I wouldn't be up for a 3 week trip, but taking a 1 - 1.5 week off for it is possible. If Dan could meet up with any of us, he could provide a bit of shift driving relief if anyone gets tired and the rest want to press on -- again, highly iffy on my part though (as of right now).

Keith dude you read my mind!
I would not mind that at all.
I would have to start saving some cash but a trip out there with my own truck, collect some Cali sand and bring it back with me.
Oh and a chance to jump the truck and get a pic, and hit some Cali trails.
I am already teary eyed just thinking about it.
Again, I know its a maybe but still....

I guess they must have thought they can drive sand rail style and make it through...

The guy who delivered it had never even drove on sand before. He wanted me to drive his truck and trailer out there.
I think eventually once they got close, another truck from the next camp actually delivered the trailer. :D
That was from a company that doesn't normally deal with the dunes. The other company are pros at delivering them out there.

yeah
well if all works out well
I might be driving out there.
Since I know how to do the major engine work that I need to do to my truck, and have a shop that I can do it in and I can get parts at an awesome discount saving money should be a lot more easier now.
The only thing that is going to be emptying my wallet now is the steel for the bumpers, sliders, and skids that I am making...

A drive out there would be sweet, but highly iffy for me too. My 4Runner wouldn't make it, so unless I have something different by then, we'd have to take somebody else's vehicle. :hillbill: Kinda depends on my work situation though, and I'll have to see if it's cheaper to drive out there or fly. LAX is dirt cheap to fly into. :D Road trips are awesome though.

I have 3 more open seats Dan (I would say 4, but a person sitting in the middle in the back for that entire trip is just way too much...)
It is definitely to early to tell anything, with you looking for a job, and me looking for something different and trying to get truck to just get me around town, and yeah while prices may be cheaper, this is one road trip I have to put under my belt...

We should buy a an old school bus for UY Pismo events. They are cheap on ebay, and they could sleep a bunch of folks in makeshift beds. :hillbill: Getting it out on the sand might be a pain though....
Seriously though, if I move out there, I've had thoughts of doing a bus conversion. Bluebird makes the Wonderlodge (sp?) which are motorhomes based on the bus chassis and are built very well. A copy of one would be sweet. Sorry, I'm going off topic...

Not that the event can be planned only around me, but as of right now they have my military duty scheduled for Sept 12-13. Near the end of the month would be better, since i normally have my military duty near the beginning few weekends of the month, and they could reschedule. I'll do what I can to make it, though, if my military dates land on the same date as this event.
