So I went out to my 4runner(97, limited V6, auto) this morning and started it and let it warm up for about 10 min then went to put in in reverse and nothing happened. So i put it back in park and i heard the most god awful grinding. :tapedshut:
Last night she was working just beautifully. And now nothing. Any ideas? :bangdesk:
So I am taking the day off of work. :drink:

You'll need to figure out if the grinding was in fact from the tranny or perhaps the rear end. If it was the tranny, then I personally would start looking for a lower milage used tranny to swap in because a rebuild is going to cost upwards of $2k or more while a used one will be around $400-600 plus labor. Unless you're going to drive this truck another 200k miles, I'd go the used route.

Look to see if your driveshaft turns...see if its the transmission or axle.
Same thing happened to me as well, but, when I was driving... Turned out to be a broken axle shaft.... and the tire/wheel went rolling down the highway as I had a nice slide off into the shoulder....in the middle of Mexico...
Anyways, yea back to you... hope all goes well but just remember it could be worse! :D
