chris i was going to call you but i got busy today. whats the firewood situation? should i load up my trailer and then have people pitch in some bucks for the wood? like a dollar per vehicle or something like that?(i cant really afford to pay for everyone to have fire!)

also my parents have shown some interest in making the trip also, so i might have a few more in tow (likely in a ford superduty)

Sean, that would be awesome if you brought a trailer load of wood. If it's wood you pay for though, don't worry about it and maybe just bring a bundle or two. Even if the majority just brought a bundle, it would be decent. One thing I'm going to do and you may be able to as well, look in the craigslist free ads for free wood. I see it here often, someone cuts down a pine tree, tears down a deck, etc... It doesn't have to be great firewood, even big logs of wet pine will burn once we get the fire going. If it is construction lumber (this goes for everyone), just remember, no nails, no pressure treated, no stain/laquer. I have a small stash of construction lumber I've been picking up. I usually look for little to no nails. The stuff with nails, I just cut the sections with nails out with my skill saw. I've been checking craigslist and hope to get more construction lumber and some decent logs (probably pine or eucalyptus) as those seem to pop up a couple times a week here.

That would be great if your parents came. Tell them I promise they won't get stuck in mud or snow this trip. :flipoff:

money wise it looks like ill only be able to camp one night... which night would be better for just one night? i may also be able to contribute some wood, cuz from my last camping trip i met a wood chucker here in Nipomo that sold me enough wood to fill my 4runner for $10.. or chris if you can make it down here maybe we can load up your trailer with it...

slosurfer
08-10-2009, 07:14 PM
Kevin, if you can only do one night, then Sat. night is the one to do. That is the night of the clam chowder feast and the raffle.

I'll have to see what wood I come up with first.

############################## Update #########################################

Here are a few important updates on the event.

1. Event Store (http://www.pismojamboree.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=49&vmcchk=1&Itemid=49)- The tshirts, stickers (2008 and 2009), Splash Cafe clam chowder bread bowls, and chowder bowls are all available in the Event Store (http://www.pismojamboree.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=49&vmcchk=1&Itemid=49). The clam chowder definately needs to be preordered by you, otherwise you probably won't get any unless someone is a no show. To insure you get a tshirt or sticker, those should also be preordered, although we do plan on having a few for sale at the event. You do not have to pay through paypal or use a credit card to order, there is the option to select "Bank check, money order, other" during your checkout if you prefer to pay us that way at the event. This will get your order in and then you can pay and pick up your order at the event. If you do this, be sure to go through the whole checkout procedure and get your confirmation email of your order, this insures that we got it.

2. Attendee List (http://www.pismojamboree.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=35&Itemid=46)- We are at 89 vehicles at this moment!!!! If you or any of your friends are planning on going but haven't got on the Attendee List (http://www.pismojamboree.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=35&Itemid=46), then please post up here or pm me so I can have Lance add you to the list. We are trying to keep an accurate list of who is coming, this is very helpful to us and our sponsors. So please let me know if you or your friends plan on coming. First name and vehicle will suffice, location is an added bonus just so people see where everyone is coming from.

3. Our Sponsors (http://www.pismojamboree.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=4&Itemid=18)- I can't say enough about our sponsors (http://www.pismojamboree.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=4&Itemid=18), they rock! Please remember them when it comes time to outfit your rig or camping gear. Here are our newest sponsors since the last time I listed them.

Looks sweet! I'm sure you've asked about the HG. I'm always leery on those v6's when they say they just flushed the coolant and changed all the fluids on craigslist. Although it could just be normal maintenance.

That would be sweet to get the inchworm auto adapter and do duals in it. I've always liked the look of those 2 doors.

Comparing it to last year's event, the pre-registered vehicles are up over 175% so I'd say if we lose a few it'll still be more than last years event :)

This just means more chances for you to win the raffle if you decide to throw in a few bucks!

Thanks for the orders guys!

If you haven't purchased your event swag/grub and aren't sure how this all works it's just like a small shopping cart on the Pismo Jamboree website. There are two payments so pick your poison to reserve your order.

1) Cash at da event!
2) paypal

Either one works for me as long as I have a heads up on orders so we don't run out of stuff. If I do, I'll just ship you the goods later on (except for the food!)

Thanks ya'll!

That is an optional run and all depends on who wants to go and what time they decide. Last year, I was too beat to go by the time I had broken down camp. I think a few went that way or at least they went Hi mtn rd and then stopped at Pozo Saloon on their way home.

I think that's more of a tentative schedule. Sure, some events will happen at the time specified, but optional trail runs can happen whenever. Just depends on what people want to do.

pretty much you have to allow at least a 3 hour block of time to run garcia... whenever that may be...

The schedule does have quite a bit of flexibility built into it. :) Part of the reason is because it is the dunes and people can do what they want. We don't have to worry about how many vehicles are on what trails, etc... like some other events have to deal with.

Last year a group did go out to Garcia Ridge on Sat. and some went Hi mtn to Pozo on Sunday on their way home.

The best for this type of trip, is to not do all of garcia ridge as that can take a long time since it's a "there and back" type trail. The best is to go in about a half hour to the play area/steps and play around on the rocks and then come out. The majority of good rocks and hill climbs are in that first section anyways and the brush is cleared pretty good on that part of the trail.

They are actually going to make it mandatory soon I believe. Right now though, if the vehicle is not "street legal" you need to have a flag or you'll get a fix it ticket (live and learn... ranger pointed to the 3 link suspension saying thats not street legal...)

Looks like I'll make it out to this trip! Was there last weekend actually.

Like the others said, you can get them at any of the ATV rental places off Pier ave. Some sell a quick disconnect, Here are a few types (http://www.checkersindustrial.com/product-accessory.php?id=86), I have the "Easy adapter mount" in the link.

since yours is a street legal vehicle, you don't have to have a flag and therefore can do whatever the hell you want with yours scuba (until they change the rules :) ).

Some places only allow orange triangle whip flags, some will allow another flag below the orange triangle whip, and some are more about you just having a flag that has orange or red no matter what shape as long as it fits the criteria (like Crinale posted, is how pismo is).

alot of people are squeamish about pit toilets. if you camp, you should be used to this as its in probably 75% of campsites. ive had the luxury of having a campsite with a flush toilet and a shower. its nice, but something about it just isnt camping.

by far the worst is digging a hole and squatting or crapping in a bucket. so be thankful you have 4 walls, a roof, and something to sit on!

Firewood!!!!

I have some construction scraps that I am bringing, another dude from the marlin board is going to try to get some cutoffs from his friends at the lumber yard (I need to pm him to double check), some people coming from oakhurst are bringing some oak. With that, if everyone else just brings a little bit of wood, we should be fine. But, if you have access to more wood and can bring more wood, that would be great! I just don't want someone thinking they have to go buy 5 bundles of oak.

Kevin, that would be great if you could pick up some of that wood, and I'm sure we can find enough peeps to pitch in to reimburse you. Like Mike said, if you have a tarp or an old blanket/blankets to throw in there, you should be able to pull those out after and not have many chips left. Depending on room in the van and my time schedule tomorrow, I may try to see if I can find any big free eucalyptis wood on my way to the dunes.

Scuba, I would suggest not to bring a tore up dresser. A) It will have metal, staples, screws, nails, etc.. in it which is a huge no-no and I will be pissed if I see anything with nails going in the fire and B) It is probably painted or stained and that stuff isn't good to burn for a bonfire with a lot of people standing around. On the other hand, if it was somewhere else with big firepits (so no one would drive over the left over metal), and different circumstances, I would be all over chucking a whole dresser in the fire. :D

Also, the gps coordinates for the camp and the group photo are up on the website now. That gps format will also be the same format used for the gps game. For those without gps, the main camp will be just before pole 6, directly down from the restrooms. Good thing is, you can't miss us and drive way down the beach as the beach is closed at pole 6 this time of year.

1. Teams of two vehicles
2. One gps and one digital camera (it can be played without a camera as well, but the main game will need the camera)
3. GPS points will be printed up and available for pick up at the main booth. They will be in this format:
Camp:
N35* 03.786
W120* 37.725

4. This game can be done anytime throughout the day. Once you are ready to start, come to us and we'll record your starting time. Same goes for when you're finished or just done playing.

5. Each spot will have a question to answer and some will have an "activity" that needs to be completed and a picture taken of. You can do the whole thing with just answering the questions, but major bonus points go to those who complete the activities.

6. Ideally, we would like to use the photos as part of a slideshow on sat. evening.

That's the quick rundown of it, just to give you guys a heads up.

Dude if there ain't enough fire wood so we can cook our smores we can make then on my new grille/stove dealio.

And dude, we live in the effin dessert, ain't no fire wood around..

Oh, Ill bring my trunks but I doubt I'll get in, camping + no showering abilities + after feeling of swimming in the ocean makes me shudder. Yeah ok call me a panzy but whatever..

Troy, I sure hope you bring more than trunks if you plan on boogie boarding for more than a couple minutes. Water temp will probably be a warm for Pismo 57*-60*

that seems doable. i might skip the boogie board since that will be a hassel and lure me out into deep waters lol. steve ill have a shower thingy there and at least 5 gallons to get the salt off. that should be enough to make things barable. i might have to bring my BBQ too. i hate how it rattles while driving but it does cooka da foods well.

Just a heads up: the gps format we are using is generally referred to as GPS Format which is Degrees, Minutes, Decimal Degrees rather than Degrees, Minutes, Seconds It is pretty easy to convert either way with a calculator, for example 30 Seconds = .5 Degree Minutes. Anyways, just a heads up so you can see what your gps is set to and change it if need be.

I'm off to meet Lance at the dunes right now and start staking out the camp. :flipoff:
