I am the proud, new owner of a 04 Tacoma D-cab. I used to be a very proud owner of a 02 D-cab.
The only difference that I can tell visiually is the keyless-entry light. The 02 had a visible red light underneath the radio. The 04 has no visible red light at all.
Also on my 04 the doors dont lock automatically once the truck is in gear. My 02 did this. It was a nice feature.
There is a way to make them lock automatically I think. I know my alarm on my T100 has it-sot he factory alarm might have that.

can't help you on the red light issue but for the auto door locks in gear, that should be something a dealer can reprogram for you. check with your dealer to see if they can perform this change w/o any charge.
glad to hear you got a replacement quickly (and an 04 dcab!)

ABS was optional equipment in 2002, whereas it was standard equipment on 2004 models... The parking brake cable on the rear axle was relocated from above over leaf spring pack to below the springs sometime before 2004 models were rolling out the door at NUMMI... I believe 2004 models had electronic throttle systems, so there is something different with the throttle body and the cruise control unit.
There's probably something else that I'm forgetting... Daytime running lights, maybe? Something.

DRL was optional in 2001-2002, not sure about 2003-2004. I do know that 2003-2004 is DBW (Drive by Wire). ABS was optional and I am glad that mine does NOT have ABS. :D
What happened to the 2002? Recall?

It was involved in a accident a month ago. I replaced the 02 with the 04 a month ago.
