very nice, is there a detailed write-up somewhere ?
I would love to co that, but Im thinking about doing the storage drawer thing, maybe I could combine both :headscratch:

Sweet! One concern though... does the front legs have plates under the carpet similar to the back? I only ask because if you do ever have a roll over (lets hope not), then the cabin will cave in and the roll bar legs will just drive thru the sheetmetal down to the tires...

Just some food for thought as reinforcing the plates by the legs and distributing the load/forces would be a good idea.

I have considered combining both and you could I think it would be nice. No I don't have a detailed write up but I will try to make one sometime soon. I think Wabfab has some good info on his site about it also.

yes it has something very similar (custom built) and really this roll bar wouldn't help a lot in a big roll but It would help some here is a small write up I posted on yotatech before this site was opened http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=102345&highlight=ADH8796 the question about rolling is adressed over and over check it out.

Cool more 1st gen roll bars have new homes! I really like mine although I did cut just a bit too much off mine. Some day I will mount a CO2 tank bracket to it also.

Many worry that mounting the spare verticle makes it hard to see out the rear window. I do not agree:

Yeah from the rear posts. I bought this one from a yota tech guy and had him cut it into pieces to ship, no biggie just got to get off it and weld it together again. And know I will need to cut some off the rear, wasn't aware any was needed for removal on the front.

Just to clarify so we're all on the same page: the front posts are the ones that go on top of the wheel wells and the rear posts are the ones that mount just past the wheel wells towards the rear hatch.

If that's the case...you don't need to cut any off of the rear posts, just about 2" from the front posts and then re-weld the old feet back on 'em.

Good luck,

Fink

Agreed
It really could not be any easier to do. Saws-all or hack saw the 2 forward mounting plates off through the tube, measure up 2" and mark with tape all the way around the pipe to get a good straight cut. Cut it off and then reweld on the bottom mounting plate.

You don't need to do anything at all to the rear legs.

To get it into the Runner I put the back seat down and took off the trim pieces for the seat backs/belts for extra clearance. It was very tight to get in this way but I could not find a way to get it in the back hatch.

I spent a lot of time making sure it was properly centered and as forward in the rig as I could get it to save space.

You got it.

It was very easy, granted Anthony(ADH8796) pretty much did it for me.

As long as you get it centered and make sure your tire will fit you're set.

Thanks for picking up my slack (fink and ecchamberlin) sorry I haven't payed much attention to this thread. Everything stated by Fink and ecchamberlin is clear cut and very spacific on what to cut and how to cut it.

Ok guys quick question, I have the roll cage as stated earlier, but what do I need to do to it to accommodate my spare? I want a nice semi stock way to keep the tire anchored in position against the roll cage. I have plans on adding a 12-13 gal. AL race tank as a extended range tank in the spare spot under the vehicle as well as my air tank, but more on that when it happens. So I'm looking for what needs to be welded in place to accommodate the spare. I liked the way my dad 95 suburban hooked up. It had a cup and a threaded t handle and the anchor end was a threaded shaft that could be removed through a hole if needed.

Mine is not mounted as well as it should be. I simply have mine ratchet strapped to the factory u bracket welded onto the bar. I think the bracket is for the lower mount of the 1st gen seat belt. Not sure though.

It has never moved at all done like this but I will be fab'in up a welded on braket with a single long threaded bolt that I can run through a lug hole on the rim and then wing nut the rim on.

You can build something custom kind of like what I did for 4x4Fink here are a couple of pics just to help get your thoughts going.

Yeah what's nice about mine is that it's fully adjustable to whatever size tire you have it fit my stock 265 when I had it and now it fit's my 305 no problems and 4x4Fink has a 285 and it works for his tire just the same no moving or anything.

Yeah, Anthony's bracket is perfect. The more beefy one is definitely the way to go, it's much more tough and holds it more securely.

You should put these into production Anthony! I guess you can have this one back for a mock-up, lol!

Yeah it's really not a hard build in my opinion. If anyone wants me to build them a carrier let me know and I'll take some time to build a few.

I figure, since I had the idea for distribution I should get at least 25% of the profits, what do you think Anthony? lol

I can get you my bracket anytime, I can give you those spare bolts I bought too if you need to know what size to use when you build the new ones.

If someone in San Diego or close by is looking for a roll bar...the Ecology Auto wrecking in Chula Vista (Brown Field) has a really nice one...it still has the zipped on pad.
