A friend of mine has a 2006 V6 Limited 4WD 4runner that he brought down from Toronto when he moved down. He's looking to change it over to US units. In doing so, the odometer and temp readings need to be changed from kilometers and Celsius to miles and Fahrenheit. Can this be done via a action sequence like on a 3rd gen, or is this a hardware issue (needs new cluster and/or temp controls)?

Has anyone done this?

Andy, I found this link:

From what I gather, you have to swap the gauge cluster. That seems pretty ridiculous, so I'm going to dig around a bit more.

My dad's Buick has a cool button he can push that changes everything from metric to imperial format. Even the speedometer needle automatically recalibrates. Pretty dumb if Toyota hasn't done something similar.

Even my parent's '91 Plymouth has a button to change the temperature display from C ro F.

Anyways, I'll look around a bit more. :D

thanks.

the weird thing is that you can change between C and F in a 99 limited, and maybe even the odometer, but you can't do that in an 06? hmmmm....

he's wanting to do this since he's considering selling it locally and would rather have everything converted over. it's up for grabs if anyone wants it. it's the gray color, leather, 40k MILES (whatever that is in KM's - LOL), etc... it's spent two winters up north - that's the killer for me. he's looking to get maybe $21k or so USD.

I shot an email to the guys at NTP.

Maybe they have some insight on this matter.

If there isn't any button, I don't get why it couldn't just be reprogrammed. :headscratch:

Evan at Northridge Toyota told me that the only way to do this is by changing out the entire gauge cluster.

I guess it's no longer just something you can reprogram.

Bummer

uffff. if any of you come across a 4th gen cluster, 4wd, US units that has around 40k or so on it, let me know...

You might find someone up north too that wants to swap because alot of vehicles come to Canada from the US and people want to swap over to metric units. I still have a US cluster on mine but most prefer to swap them over.

PS Quick converting miles to KMs you just multiply by 1.5 :D
