Any idea what this is? I suspect it's the previous owners crappy alarm. The wiring splices are bucthered. For the heck of it I unplugged it and the truck still work and opens. Now the hard part is to clean up and splice back all the cut wires.
This is what still puzzles me that everything appears to be working without the device still intact to act as a bridge for the connections.
The dealer that I baught the truck off told me that the truck has a "boomerang" installed, I also have the little key transponder thingy. However it was never activated.
Anyone with wiring experience know what kind of issues I am looking at? I just wany to clean up the mess as it is useless to me.

so that "for use with auto trans only" says it has some kind of remote start.
to return to stock, just take the splices off and tape up the area, solder when necessary, etc. its likely it wasnt installed properly to begin with, something ive noticed alot of in my working under the steering column on many vehicles.
if youre looking for a new alarm, i LOVE my crimestopper 2002 and i got it for like 70 bucks! dont bother buying one at a big box store, they are way overpriced!
I would just leave it alone if its not doing anything tbh, sometiems removing them is more trouble than its worth.
I agree it looks to be perhaps an alarm with an remote start or just a remote start

CJM what concerns do you have about removing it? I mean it really bothers me that it is not right and the wiring is botched. Kind of oppsesive compulsive about things being done right.
The next question would be why everything still works despite the device being unplugged?

the way starter cutoffs typically are wired, when the alarm goes off (as in siren, flashing lights), it closes the relay, disconnecting the starter wire. with the brain disconnected, theres no way to close that relay and disconnect the starter wire.
now the better way to wire that is the opposite, where that relay only gets power when you want it to start, and more modern alarm systems have that feature. im not sure mine will start when its armed, i dont remember though.
you should have no problem returning this wiring to stock. if you find a relay on the starter (if i remember i think it might be a brown wire? or white or yellow with a black stripe, id have to look it up though) just take it out and reconnect the wires on the switching side of the relay (not the coil side, one of which should go to the alarm box)
If it was wired improperly it is possible reconnecting those wires may cause an issue down the road. I had this issue on a vehicle I worked on once, the customer wanted the damned remote start/alarm removed.
It was put in by an idiot most likely at best buy or something and was horribly wired. We wired it all back together and did it right but the car wouldnt start, turns out the stupid idiots had cut some CRITICAL wires and somehow had bungled it all together to work after that. We had to run several new patches in once we found those parts.
That was an extreme case though. I mean I have an aftermarket installed keyless entry and it can be a remote start, but that parts not even hooked in thank god. I wouldnt have bothered but the PO musta wanted it for some reason. Then again I got new key fobs from toyota, only the ones for the alarm.

I have a Viper alarm installed and when I had the guys put it in, for some reason they couldn't disable the stock alarm so now I have two alarm systems. So if someone manually locks the door when they get out, it will arm the stock alarm and I have to use the key...found that out one day when remote starting my rig, the stock alarm suddenly went off while the car was running...now its usually not a problem.

Yeah, Viper alarms FTL, I think the :asshat: that wired the one in my truck did something to make the fuel gauge contant hot, not on purpose of course..:chair: :bling:

As an experiment I installed the POS unit back as twice already my battery has drained where I needed a boost. Perhaps it might be just that the battery is going? Unless this remote starer has some sort of cut off switch for draining. Mind you it was -15 C last couple of days. I just stumped and flustered at the moment.
Can't wait for the warm weather so that I can trace all the wires and splice them back together.
Battery is probably toast.
If its anywhere between 3-5 years and routinely exposed to cold weather like that it will go.
I install auto batteries for a living (among other things) once you need to boost more than 2-3x in a short period its not worth it.
If you can, open up the covers and see how much acids in there-should be pretty full if not you can add but I would just replace. Buy a good one like a midrange diehard or an interstate or exide.
