:) Hey Chris!! I made a trinket I'd like you to consider trying out and giving me feedback on!
1990-1993 4Runner Interior Tailgate Window Switch and Conversion Harness.
;) I had spare parts laying around and figured "Why Not?". :D

**If you're not interested, anyone interested in one of these I'm putting a list together once a price is decided on. *The parts* go for roughly $30 plus my labor and shipping fees, what would people pay? $45-55 too low/high? ($30..Switch ~$15 Plugs~$10 Wires-n-Solder~$5)
*Parts* 1990-1993 is one type, 1994-1995 is a different type, so price may fluctuate. (Of Connector at the lock.)
**Bear in mind a ORS harness is roughly 6 wires worth and those were going for $200 IIRC, so I need a sale price range here.

What exactly does this switch do? Where is it located? Different than stock?

Read Me... (http://www.whitethaiger.net/mods/rear_win_switch/) It's an improvement on this idea using factory parts and a cleaner placement and appearance. Add's in a switch that is not there, but uses stock parts.

Ah. Thanks
No worries, you guys with the "Garage Door'd 3rd Gens" probably won't use 'em, but let me know if you need anything made up. :) I can deliver via standard shippers or do drop-offs when heading out to Truckee every so often.

Is it live all the time or just with the key turned on? For example, preventing the need to turn the key on to put the window down . . .

Live all the time as it's spliced in with the lock harness and the instructions I'm planning are to place it just to the passenger side of the handle, inset in the carpet and held by the mdf board. (Cutout the carpet, then cutout the board, and a little bigger cutout of the impact plate so the switch is recessed and protected from accidental use.)
I've thought of an arming switch style, but they stuck out too far. So far the first one's passed the family shopping trip test and kids on the tailgate test. If the gate is open, the switch won't work if someone does accidentally hit it, the failsafe just sets off a beeper.
There's enough wire there to plug it together, and using 5 zipties and the factory holes and options, it's all secured and safe.
FWIW, I am also working on an overhead console from a Previa for the guy I made the first one for so he has an alternative spot to store his Glock while sleeping back there. ;)

Shane, PM sent...
Sorry I can't test it for you.
Great idea!
I know for me, that type of switch wouldn't work for me on the tailgate without some type of cover for it, and the covered toggle switches stick out too far like you said, so I would want to mount it on the overhead thingy above the rear window. (I need to look at it and see if there is a flat spot on it).
