calico mine exploring sunday 20090329

not much of a wheeling run planed but im headed out there saturday late afternoon to explore the bismark mine and silver bow. then im spending the night in the back of the runner. i figured id post up and see if anyone was interested. ive been in both but the lady friend hasnt so im trying to get her up to speed so we can go to death valley soon to play chutes and ladders in the big mines. if anyone wants to go we can show you the oregon mine too and you would have a very good start to seeing the best of the calico mines. multiple flashlights, gloves, and reasonable physical condition/mobility are required.

bismark- difficult entry/exit fairly big for calico. interesting shoring and cribbing

silver bow- shaft sunk at 45 degree angle with horizontal off chutes. darth maul lives at the bottom :)

oregon- easy to see. has geocache in it. very large rooms and different levels. one of the larger ones in calico thats still accessible

p.s these are safe to go in so long as your not an idiot and/or drunk :) there are holes that you would not want to fall in and places to twist an ankle. :gay:

original plans were to see these places at night and leave sunday morning but if theres interest we can turn this into a sunday run. we had a crummy camping trip last weekend with high winds and and hail so i was thinking we would go camping again this weekend with the good weather.the winds were strong enough to shove the 4runner around, it didnt loose its footing but it was swaying pretty extreme. i didnt sleep a wink hardly lol.

the pictures are mostly the oregon mine and silver bow. ive been in the main part of the bismark but i just ran through it looking for a easy entrance for Kimi. turns out the other entrance involves a belly crawl thoguh a partial cave in and im not trying to terrify her yet lol.

Just so you all know... there are 2 large groups that are planning a weekend offroad run out there that weekend (4X4Him and MyJeepRocks.com). It's going to be really crowded. 4X4Him are camping inside Calico, not sure where all the MJR people are going to be camping...probably all over. They are a huge group.

it will be a SUNDAY run with a 10am meet time. thats your day off right? im pretty pumped up about the silver king. ive been wanting to go in that one for awhile but the entrence blended into the mountain too much from satilite photos. if you come we'll have to show you the oregon mine. thats the one you and i were almost at last time we went but turned around at a spot where the trail looks like it goes off a cliff. turns out that trail is fine and just looks dangerous and the big mine is just around the corner.
