So with me building up the truck more, and having issues with my fuel consumption in the truck, it was time to get a beater car.

Guess how much I picked this baby up for....
You'll never guess I am sure....

ONE DOLLAR!
That is right, I got it for a dollar.
The car was originally my uncles.
It has 217K on the ODO.
He bought himself a Mercedes and was like "do you want a car to work on now that your in school?"
I was like sure, and voila the transaction was made.
I paid him in quarters for it.

This Car is fully Loaded!
2.0l 4 Cylinder
Automatic Trans
Power everything but the seats
(Seats non-power due to the car being a hatch back and seats needing to tilt forward for rear access)
Sunroof
Leather Seats
Heated Seats
Fog Lights

On to the pics!

I put the head unit out of the truck in it cause I drive this more now and will be putting a better head unit in Tess:

V-DUB BABY!
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/Nighthief/GTI/DSC04471.jpg

oh its actually a little over 218K now:

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/Nighthief/GTI/DSC04474.jpg

My only complaint is this:
the 2.0l Non turbo hooked up to an auto trans:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/Nighthief/GTI/DSC04476.jpg

Thing I had to do to the car when I got it.
New front rotors and pads.

Plans for the car:
Performance:
Rebuild Motor
Turbo Charge
Headers
Cat Back Exhaust
Switch from Auto to Manual Trans

Drive ability:
Suspension Upgrade
Upgrade to Porsche Brakes
Stiffened Sway Bars

Styling:
Body kit
Spoiler
Halo Lights
Tinted Tails
Tinted Windows
Painted Rims
Blue Floor LEDs
Blue Under Car LEDS

Electronics:
Stereo System
Laptop Interface
Whole Stereo System Upgrade

For now the car is staying as is with the acceptation of new tires and possible suspension upgrade.

Tess will still get the money first but if something needs to be done to the GTI to keep it on the road, then it will get fixed.

And as always my vehicles have to have names, so the GTI has been names Natasha.

Oh, and here is something for all of you Toyota lovers, I had to get both Tess and Natasha home at the same time, and since there is only one of me, and two of them, I had to do this:

Can you honestly tell me that you would pass up a running car that would only cost you a dollar?

no no
Body kit is rally style
Spoiler off R32
Halo Lights (thats still in question for now)
Tinted Tails (that is also still in question)
Tinted Windows (black on black in the summer is gonna burn, hoping the tint will help that burn a little...)
Painted Rims (how many of us paint our rims on here for a ricers look? these have curb rash just want to dress them up a bit)
Blue floor LEDs (the current lights in the car suck, so why not upgrade them, and with making them blue, at least they match the dash then :D )
Blue Ground Effects LED <-- yeah thats pure ricer right there lol I might do without if I do actually take this thing rally racing through the pine barrens

Avy, that VW is going to be nice when you're all done! This is going to be a cool project to watch.

The neighbor across the street here has a red GTI with smoked tail lights. Looks good.

Are blue ground effect lights legal in PA? I know blue lights of any kind are illegal in a lot of states. A buddy up in VA got a ticket for having those blue LED windshield washer squirters.

So Avy !

Now that you have a real wheeler, lets go wheeling. :flipoff:

dan, I think they are only illegal if you use them on the street. I don't think you are allowed to use any ground effect lights on the street anyways

The thought did cross my mind about throwing in a twin turbo duramax and putting it on some Dana 60s and some 44" tire LOL!

This just means I can saw Tess now LOL..... Or not

i bet when ronnie and the daytonas heard that, they shat themselves....

in no way does a GTI (although wonderful and great, and id love to own one) compare to a GTO(actually, i can only think of a few cars that compare to an old goat)

nice, esp for a buck! i really like 4 door hatchback versions of the golfs, esp TDI golfs.

i agree with gilby: spec it out as a daily driver w/ little to no mods. save the money!

I agree... the 2.slow motor is worthless for mods... they blow sleeves if you run any kind of boost.. If you really want to mod a gti, sell it and start with a 1.8t, or a vr6... I have lots of euro friends and they all say the same thing.

i agree with you.. i would recomend finding one with a 1.8t . i have a 01 jetta 1.8t with a 50 trim top mounted turbo and water methanol injection putting down 368hp to the front wheels on a fairly mild tune and stock internals.. try that with a 2.0 and its gonna be a great coffe table (assuming u can get all the oil off before it ruins ur carpet :-P )

I am actually in the market for a 1.8T.
I found one on craigslist with a bad timing belt that my friend is willing to rebuild the head for a case of beer and parts.

I would just have to find the trans to mate it to then.
And also figure out how to get it in cause iirc those motors are mounted as though the car is RWD well at least in the Jetta they are

heh, im not sure about a swap, but my friend matt has a 1.8t jetta that he recently had to install a brand new engine, because his timing belt broke and fubared his engine... his car is SOOOO sick tho...

edit: this is Matt's jetta...

Well I am glad I really didn't do anything to this car except maint.
I think its finally on its death bed.

Radiator fan went, fixed that and now heater core is clogged.

It served me well, now sitting at a little over 234k on the ODO before I lay her to rest.

I just need something reliable now, with driving 70+ miles round trip M-F I can't be breaking down, and chasing issues is making my wallet to light and showing neglect towards Tess.

There will be a new car to replace it, and I will miss this one a little.
