....to get the tires rotated on my Tundra. They are a few years old and due for replacement before next fall, but I rotate them regularly. Anyway, so I'm waiting in the lobby reading that treasonous Time magazine and the manager swaggers over to inform me that my brakes need to be replaced. I knew that too.

I wasn't born yesterday. I know he's trying to upsell me to generate more cash flow, but I'm curious so I play dumb. He continues to tell me how urgent this proceedure is and how this isn't a job for amateurs.....uh huh..... Woven into his tale is a detail that ticked me right off. He proudly declared that I would need new rotors ("Those are the silver discs that you see through your wheels...") since the ones I have are too old to resurface. What he doesn't know is that I bought new factory rotors from the dealer last spring and put them on. I kept the old ones so that I would have two pair. That way when I get rotor runout I can turn a pair down and have them ready in advance. They cost me 70.00 each. "Those will be about 120.00 each. "We can do each side for about $200.00..."

Okay thanks you freakin sphincter nugget!

I pretended to be interested and mentioned I also needed to change my timing belt and water pump as well as get some new tires by fall. He exclaimed that they are going to like me this year. Later, I dropped by to have Mrs Fuster's bimmer's spare tire fixed. They did it for free since I was going to be their favorite customer this fall......NOT!

[/RANT]

I will buy the tires from them however...

hahahahaha!

Almost all of my "tire" business goes to Discount Tire / America's Tire but since when did Big O do brakes?

I gotta say it's not the first time to hear/read places trying to up-sell stuff. It's just part of the daily grind. I gotta give the guys/gals props for attempting to "convince" (or swindle) the suckers but like they say, "there's a sucker is born every minute" and that's what makes the world go round and round. Just make sure your forehead doesn't say "sucker" :P

Haha, "freakin sphincter nugget"

Your story sounds on par for most places. I've just come to expect it and act like a total dick once I get pissed off.

i just laugh at them... i dont trust tire places to do anything more than put tires on the truck, and i dont trust many of them to do that properly.

everyone needs to make a buck, but it irritates me when some shops perpetuate the mistrust/money-grubbing image that the general public has of the automotive business :shake:

i went to big-o here just once. they mounted my tires and had to increase the first price they gave me half way through the job. not a big deal but then i found they used those cheap side crimp lead weights. pepboys did the same job for me four monthes prior for less money and used the proper stick on weights for alloy rims.

funny they would try to swindle you. i mean im sure your truck is not stock so they should have had a clue that maybe you've turned a wrench or two. im glad you spun it on them and got a tire fixed for free lol

 Well, in his defense, he probably saw you fall out of the truck in the parking lot when you were trying to grab a pen off the floor.

After the experiences iv had with the Big O that used to be here in town, ill never go to a Big O again... we have a local shop (Big Brand Tires) that gets my business... free flat repairs, free alignment checks etc...
