Hey guys

I am going to ditch the 00 camry soon... it has served me well but it is time to move on.

I want an 06+ 4runner sport edition v6. I have read around, seen some criticisms but on the whole the 06+ 4runners dont seem to have many issues. Is this true? Are there common issues I should look for? Any other advice for a 4th gen newb?

Thanks!

You definitely can't go wrong w/ a 06+ in either engine configurations. All of the major bugs were worked out by 2006.

Camry -> 4runner = not so happy mpg :) but you already know that :P

btw why SE? if you plan to lift it etc you'll end up ditching that xreas so you might as well get either the sr5 or ltd (w/o the xreas).

my impression is he wants a DD for those lovely Massachusetts winters, and not a wheeler, he has the Pickup for that lol

Like lance said, that is a great year.
My uncle has an 05 SE, I know a year older, but driving that thing is a dream, and he has it fully loaded!

i dont have plans to lift it and if i do it will be like a 1" lift or something if even. like yotafun said, I have the 91 for wheelin'.

i am going with the SE because it has the nicest interior (i LOVE the black fabric) plus the hood scoop and the nicest stock rims! its a dd after all :)

I cant stand that faux marble trim on the limiteds, and the SR5's are mostly under equipped... it'll probably be an adjustment with the mpg's (Camry hits 28-30 pretty consistently) but I want something more fun and useful...

My plan is to immediately get an integrated GPS head unit that can still use the steering controls. I found an apline that will do that already like a nerd

thanks for the advice guys, i figured 06 was a primo year since they did the minor refreshening which is usually when they've worked the bigger bugs out.

plenty of blacks out there. reds are definitely a rarity and wasn't reintroduced until later but still only a small amount ever produced. Therefore the reds are either love em or hate em so for the seller they know they're selling to a small crowd. This could help ya (who knows)

Green is the rare color as it was only available for 6 months :) Lucky me!

I don't think I've ever seen that red color. That's nice! I still think I would go with the black though, or maybe silver.

Is there anything wrong with the pre '06 4th gens? I know they don't look as good, but throw on some '06+ lights, grill, and some built bumpers, and they look good. When did VVTi and the A750 5spd tranny come out?

hey, fellas, would you chime in for a target price for this 06 V8?
pictures, equipment and carfax are all here:
http://www.fortwaynelexus.com/VehicleDetails/385768873

from the pictures I think it's SE with 17" wheels, and it's not an auction vehicle because it was leased out and re-sold at the same dealer. 3 years old not 4.

I'll probably do a recon visit on Sunday, my wife's company provides great loan rate for employees at 2.25%. we are prequailified, so for the dealership, we are cash buyers.

thats a pretty standard price for a v8. If that was a v6 it'd be about 21K.

Use the 40+K on the stock tires to lower the price for one...

sorry for the hijack, I'm going to take a look at an 04 V6 4x4 SR5 tomorrow. 120k miles on the clock, anything I need to pay attention to?

there are some stratch and dents but the guy is pretty up front with it. I don't really care about it(ketp to myself), but he's only asking 10k for it. 120k miles in 5 years gotta be lots of highway which isn't a bad thing for a Yota.

Vince, how's 04 model year in general?

The 5spd tranny for the 4.0L wasn't out until 2005 (it was on the V8 from the start). Also if you drive an 04 versus an 05 (in a V6 model) on the highway, you can definately tell the difference.....at least I did. I doubt you'd see much of a difference from an 05 to an 06 though except for cosmetics.

If you're at a dealer, also take one of the 08+ highlanders for a drive.....very nice!

What does it matter? With our President's new plan we're all going to be driving Chevy Volt's for $40k that get the gas mileage of my '05 Civic that I bought used for $16k. I have to wonder whether we're all going to be going to the pick'n pull to keep our rigs running or we'll be forced to trade them in for above mentioned vehicle as a means of keeping our horrible gas spewing tanks off the road. My guess is the latter because anything but a specifically licensed 'classic' vehicle will not be prohibited from registering. Tell me I'm wrong.

Lee, if that 4runner is priced at 23k that's way overpriced. I just did a quick kbb with an 06 SE w/ 45k miles and if rated at "excellent" it was only 21k.

Here's the link: KBB Info (http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/PricingReport.aspx?WebCategoryId=42&YearId=2006&Mileage=45000&VehicleClass=UsedCar&ManufacturerId=49&ModelId=294&PriceType=Private+Party&VehicleId=1625&SelectionHistory=1625|30634|91745|0|0|&Condition=Good&QuizConditions=)

Just some ammo for ya if you're working against the dealer. Also another thing to consider is that any vehicle on the dealer's lot is considered dead inventory especially right now so I'm sure they'll have more wiggle room now more so than ever. Get that 4runner below 20k out the door (tax included) and you've got a pretty killer deal!

Lee

thanks buddy

i am looking at 20-21K out the door indeed :) 23 is high for this area too, actually, it's just literally the only black sport ed thats an 06 plus within a 50 mile radius (from a toy dealer)!

you linked to private party, if you click retail in your link it's 23460.... still like to get around 20-21.

so im gonna look, see if they budge, if not, i'll wait. :)

we bought the 04 i was asking in the previous reply. after tax about $10k. i did a tuneup with new OEM plugs, oil, oil/air filer, drive belt, ATF, pink coolant and switched the tires with my 99, wife is pretty happy with it. it's her new daily driver now, she no longer likes her Rav4 anymore. the 4spd auto trans is pretty smooth and the power isn't bad at all. average 19 mpg with 3/4 hwy. Scion radio would be the very next on the table. i ordered a set of 265/75/16 Hankock AT tires for her from discount tires, a price loophole made it $98 each instead of $154, should be here next week.

we can get 2.25% apr used car loan from my wife's company's credit union, we were looking really hard on 06+ V8 models for long long time. but we opted out to buy out a 10k dollar truck than carry a 20k dollar debt.

there are always some good deals out there, but so are the better deals, just be patient with your money. it's a buyer's market now, don't tell yourself "i gotta have it", we walked away from a deal for 06 V8 100k mile warranty for $17k after drving 2 and half hours to near chicago because the dealer refused to put on new tires as part of the deal. we have been to Louisville, KY, Cinncinati OH, Dayton OH to test drive number of 06 and 07 vehicles but we kept our selfdiscipline up high, other wise i won't have the chance to buy the 04.

oh im not in a rush.

i found out my credit union will give me 4.5% since i have a good credit score... that's very exciting to know!

Nice! I really like the black 4Runners. Those are my favorite 4th gen rims too.

Is it a V8 or V6?

I'm jealous.
