Check it out!! ECT Relocation Mod version 2.0!! Tacoma Style Switch No Less!! *No more rubbed/cleaned off labeling! :wrenchin:
This is just a quick synopsis post, I'll add in the rest of my pics and figure out the write-up integration for the original version I designed as soon as I have some more free space on my flickr account. :D Enjoy!
My original switch from when I did my version 1 mod is on the left, showing how badly the lettering was wiped out after using just windex, and how the currently modded switch's lettering has also started to deteriorate. The reason I went to the 96+ switch is it's almost a plug and play if you like the easy way out plus it's designed like the emergency flasher, clutch cancel, and decklight switches with the lettering in a window versus just on the plastic. *The hard way's making the extension harness and integrating it like I did.
Now, onto some sample pics! :D

Huh...interesting. Looks like the original location of your ECT switch is different than mine.

No, I just moved it from the shift console to the center armrest console when I did the first WIki Write-up version..

Note: I forgot to cc the pending writeup page, hope I didn't lose all the past hour's worth of writeup work... :chair:

Ah..ok. I never did see the original relocation write-up, so that make sense! Looks like Toyota did away with the rear window lock switch on newer 2nd gens as well.
That new switch you have looks nice!

Thanks! The window lock switch is actually integrated into the driver's door and locks out all other switches that are not at the driver's door. IOW the rear window and all passenger switches are neutralized.

Well that's cool. I like that setup better than the dedicated rear window lock switch I have now. :D
Does that rear window switch on the console work the window at all times? Cause that looks like its out of a 80s runner.

It remained the exact same design all the way through '95, and no, when you hit the window lock switch it and all other seperate switches, excluding those on the driver's door are disabled. In order to work the back window at that point you have to either use the key, or the internal gate bypass switch and harness I designed.

I like the new ect switch. So, if you were just going to switch to the new switch but keep it in the original location, is it a plug n play?

Not entirely sure..It is a plug and play, direct connection, but as I saw the switch was a bit longer it seems it would fit best in one of the three pockets in the center console, probably the leftmost one. I didn't want to deal w/ another spill and short so I just threw it into the dash and did the extra work.
FWIW I did a add-in writeup for this part (V:2.0) temporarily using my picassa account for the pics until staff can save the images here but I'm not sure where it is right now...Lance??

Chris, I checked things out while doing the mod for a friend today. The "Taco" switch will not fit in any of the factory shifter or center console positions for our vehicles, well, make that it won't fit unless you get a BFH and want to dimple your transmission tunnel to clear the switch surround. That or do a wiring mod similar to the factory original switch (PITA after I checked).
The extension harness is really straight forward to make and I have so far had no ill effects, in fact, I even tested out the soda proofness of the console blank today when my In-N-Out Soda cap failed.
I like how the switch is now. It just adds to the uniqueness of it.
