here is the expedition portal thread. i will likely post more over there on this topic: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26226

and all updates will be posted to my blog:
http://seanz0rzoffroad.blogspot.com/

so heres an outline of what id like to do:

1) Drive PCH (101, with side trips to the more notable attractions along 1) north from LA to the Oregon border. then take the south western leg of the OBCDR(Oregon BackCountry Discovery Route) north to I84, drive west to Portland.

or

2) Start out northbound on 395, visit friends near Carson City, NV, continue north on 395 and take the southeastern leg of the OBCDR north to I84, drive west to Portland.

anyone have any experience, can help me out, or wants to travel with me? post it up below!!!

Hell yeah hit up 395 great scenery and as far as using 101, well there's plenty of us to visit with along the way also.

Lone Pine and Mammoth, Big Bear and Mono make the first part so worth it! you could always do like Jared did and once in Carson City, take 50 or 80 over. IMHO it's the best advise i've given anyone recently, as you get to see the best of both areas, Eastern Sierras then PCH all the way into Cave Junction then jump onto 5 North.

:) There's always Hollister if I can get away w/ it. Pretty tame stuff, try doing it all in 2wd and open ;) ..and yes, time lapse pics would be sick! Let me know if you need a host spot for anything. FWIW be sure if using the Sacramento inbound route to visit Dave'z as well as a couple other shops out there...good times.

So it looks like you're taking the 4runner. If you weren't and were looking to do it in style I would suggest this.

Living the dream. Crusing up the California coast with this american made beauty, wind in your hair and not a care in the world. Nice thing is that when you get tired you just cruise out back and hit the hay. Only problem I see with this setup, and I'm going out on a limb because I haven't been inside the camper, would be the TV. I'm not sure if it's satellite or not. If it isn't you've got the analog/digital thing to deal with but that's the only thing.

Just found this picture this morning and thought about you and your trip. I think your 4runner might do better off road but I thought I'd throw it out there.

If you end up going North 395 to Carson City, then there are a few out of the way, and very cool unknown legal trails before Carson city. There are some cool high lakes with some trails and fishing all within a couple miles of Gardnerville NV. I lived in that area for 8 years so hit me up, if your definitly going that way and I'll forward some Topo maps.

If your gonna go to Hollister then we should definitly hook up.

Happy Trails

dates have been set! leaving Redlands, CA early on June 20th. Start on the trailhead the morning of the 21st. approx. 7 days to make the trip. i will provide a final (but rough) map of the route and you are thinking of joining us, can plan to do the entire thing, or just a portion, which ever suits you!
