Gents,

Hitting the road for a bit to get over the sourness of missing race and riding the excitement of stereovision.

My travels are to the PNW to hear some music, get some saws and axes and enjoy time with the lady. Part of the time will be in Portland and I have questions.

Are there really shady places that I should avoid?

Are there places that are not safe to leave my car?

Are there times to not walk about at night?

I went to Portland once passing through. It was late and dark. It felt like a bigger city when I was down town and we had a good supper at a Scottish Pub type place because one of the guys I was with didn't want seafood at the oyster bar. Not scary, but I'm an eye down and got hit by a drunk in California on my last big trip so I'm trying to avoid hassle.

Thanks.

Well, despite an overwhelming response, I went on my trip.

Highlights include seeing the Avett Brothers in the Crystal Ballroom in Portland two nights, going to the Portland Farmer's Market, meeting David in Seattle, spending time at the Pike Place Market, eating great seafood and falling off a bar stool at Deschutes.

No bad neighborhoods, but with limited eye sight I was nervous and edgy most places. No issues, some hilarious falling down, but a grand time overall.

Thanks!

I totally thought I replied to this thread. Sorry man. Glad you had a good time anyways. Even the bad parts aren't really all that bad. There are places I wouldn't park my car. But nothing too bad.

Man I'm sorry I missed this thread. I'm glad you had a great time and if you come back up I'll give you some more ideas for things to do. What happened to the eye?

Thanks guys.

Detached retina in my left eye because of a gym accident. Emergency surgery and now recovering but my left eye is filled with synthetic eye juice so I can't see out of it.

One night in Olympia, it was just dark and new, so I was on edge because it would have been hard to see with two good eyes.

Beautiful country up there, enjoyed driving 82 back east to 84.
