JULY 31- AUGUST 2 SAME PLACE WE CAMPED LAST TIME
so lets try something closer to home how about a big bear run!!!!!??? .... who is ready for some wheeling? :asshat:
directions to the camp site/ meet spot
from 38
take 38 into town make right at Green way dr where it runs into 18 ....
go till you see the sign to turn on 38 (left)
go about a mile to van dusen canyon road (right)
go up van dusen canyon to 3n16 make right
about a mile or so we will be camped on the left i have a silver dodge ram quad cab with a white flatbed trailer and red 4 runner

I will also be putting out a traffic cone with reflectors and a glow stick for the night time arrivals....usually we roll out of camp around 8 or 9so for the early morning arrivals try to be there around then
where we camp there is plenty of room for tents, trailers, or rvs
no fires are allowed ( bummer) and if you want to use a stove or lantern you will need to obtain a fire permit from the rangers (closest place is at the big bear discovery center about 2 miles past van dusen canyon rd on 38

Seanz0rz
05-26-2009, 09:56 PM
nah just pick a date that works for everyone else. its only 1.5 hours from my driveway to most of the campsites on the north side of the lake, so no problems for me.

i really liked where we camped last time, that was a nice spot and somewhere i will camp again in the future!

About 1 foot driver. I was trying to not flop and instead ended up on my door. You can also go extream driver, but I had a super hard time doing that even with a rear locker. It's the SFA line.

I dont think were actually running JB, Are we ?

You better believe it! I wouldn't drive all the way up there if I wasn't running John Bull. If you don't want to drive your Tacoma through it you could always ride with me. I could always use a spotter in the passenger seat. Keith helped me through it last year but now that he's out in PA I'll could always use a second set of eyes. Plus after doing it last year with 31s and a rear locker, I want to see what it's like on 33s.

I can do the first weekend of August. Where did you guys camp last time?

Seanz0rz
05-29-2009, 10:51 AM
our campsite was a primative site, just out in the middle of no where off of 3n16 and near van dusen (sp?)

pot luck again or are we fending for ourselves?

here are some pics of last time: http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m141/hamiltoncomputers/Big%20Bear%205-3-08/?start=0

didnt get a shot of the campsite. i was too worried about my body damage!

I'll probably tag along with Justruns at the end of June (27-28) or TTORA at the end of August 21-23. I'm leaning towards going with the Justruns guys because Warped Tour is in San Diego that weekend. If anyone can't make the August run and wants to go at the end of the month just let me know.

How gnarly is John Bull? Scubas body damage looks brutal. If it's much worse than that trail that took my shock last time, I think I'm out.hahaha

Seriously, though, would the Deathrunner (under my novice driving skill) come out of John Bull unscathed? I'm not sure my wallet can afford anymore repairs.

Is anyone running a moderate run? I might be free to come on the 1st.

my rig is almost ready...I have replaced my broken transmission mount and broken exhaust due to that, passed smog for my registration, and replaced my wimpy 15x7 wheels with some 15x10's to widen my tippy stance. Now I need to replace my leaf springs with the new ones I have had in my garage for the last year.

Seth you would have no problem on JB. You should come......I need a good babysitter

Hey guys. Yeah... I don't know Seth you may want to start on an easier trail. You know get some experience under your belt. I hear that when you get 200 posts on an off roading forum you are ready for the "hard core" trails. HAHAHA

Marc the rig does look bad A! with the new wider rims.

Jody said my winch is sitting in the garage waiting for me to get home. She said it was not too heavy to pick up and carry it inside for me. I remember carrying yours for Kellie and it was heavy as hell. So either synthetic line is really that much lighter or Jody is getting really strong.

So Seth hows deathrunner?

Although I've never seen the deathrunner in person I'm pretty sure you could make it through John Bull without a problem. I ran it last year in my IFS first gen 4runner with 31s, a rear locker, sliders and front and rear marlin crawler bumpers without much problem. I can't wait to get up there and try it out with my 33s and rear locker.

And after a odd turn of events, it looks like I'll be able to make this run! I can't wait!

Ok, cool. Sounds like I'd be ok. No offense, Marc, but I learned to get a second opinion when the guy with the big solid axle truck tells me I'll be fine. hahaha

Eric, the Deathrunner is doing ok. It spends 99% of it's life covered in dust in my garage. I finally got to the point where I realized that I use my truck, things break, and I'm not sure that I'm financially comfortable to keep up with it like I was. Not to say that I haven't been thinking about it.

I've added front and rear swaybars with disconnects (Thanks Marc!) and replaced every single braking component. Now it is in the shop with another list of things to be done. I snapped a shitty weld on my rear shock hoop 10 minutes into what was to be my birthday excursion. :(

If anyone wants to do an easier run, I might have friends up there who want to run Gold Mtn.

I was up there on the 4th. It is weird looking down on fireworks over the lake.

Alea's 2wheel drive 98 4Runner has the harshest ride off road. I guess it doesn't help that she had D rated tires at 44psi. But, it made that long dirt road to camp a big pain.

I'm thinking about heading up Thursday night after I get off of work since I have Friday off. I'd be down to run any of the trails Friday, I'm trying to get in as much wheeling as possible up there.

My goal is to cram these trail in on Friday and Saturday

-Dishpan springs, both directions
-Gold Mountain

That sounds like a good idea...what were you thinking...like $5/person? I was just going to pick up some hotdogs for my kids so we wouldn't need carne asada for them.
