Just ordered the Doug Thorley Long Tube Headers. Should get them by Friday or Saturday and will post pics on how to remove old and install new ones. Cant wait. Next on the list is URD Mass airflow sensor and tires.

# Awesome Power Gains
# Doug Thorley Lifetime Limited Warranty
# Inside and Outside Ceramic Coating
# Equal Length Tubing
# Completely Bolt In - No Cutting or Welding
# Not CARB approved - For Off Highway Use in California
# A Higher Performance Sound (A More Present & Deeper Tone)
# In stock For Immediate Shipment

The 1GR-FE 4.0L V6 engine has front catalytic converters built into the exhaust manifold assembly. This performance header system replaces that entire assembly including the catalytic converter. This allows for free flowing, long primary tubes that enhance performance.

When the front catalytic converters are removed, the ECU will diagnose a fault setting a check engine light. URD has a little black box we call a rear dual channel O2 sim that is available to keep the check engine light off and prevent the catalytic converter inefficiency code from being set. Just click the box below to include the sim with your long tube header order if you need one.

Haha. Yea i plan on devoting Next weeks Saturday to it. Heard its a bitch of a project to do. Totally worth it in the long run though. Hoping i don't throw a Check engine light because i don't want to buy the URD O2 Sensors.

So i got the headers in yesterday and started today. My 4Runner has 50k miles on it and wear and tear from use and offroad and winter and so on. So to say the least removing nuts and bolts has been a bitch. put in 5 hrs today and still haven't been able to remove the old headers. the bolts and nuts are very rusted. had to pb blast everything to get it to loosen. we had to grind on off and still have to grind one more off on the head block on the old header to get it off and replace the hardware. my one comment to DTH is that they only supply you 4 bolts to attach the lower long to header to the down y pipe. they don't give you nuts or extra head bolts and buts. so we will have to see how tomorrow goes. grinding the nut off and replacing hardware. heading to Toyota in the morning to pick up all new nuts and bolts to rebuild my new headers with. Will put pics up tomorrow or the next day and keep you posted.

Pictures of grind work and engine and Headers. Day 2 still not on yet. Need to buy a new universal joint for the extender to get at the other head nuts. Should be removed easily tomorrow then the fun of installing begins. Still have to find a way to remove the stripped grinded bolt out of the block. that should be fun. will post again tomorrow.

Headers and new bolts.

Straight pipe from down pipe to muffler needs to be removed to move down pipe out.

More Grinding. The support bracket that supports the bottom of the headers needed to be grinded. its funny because the 14mm socket didn't fit and the 13mm didn't fit and the 9/16th didn't fit. its a weird size so it had to be grinded off because it was so rusty.

Well luckily I didn't have to do any grinding...but I sure wish I was double jointed loosening some of the bolts!

So update again. They are in and i am finished with the project. One thing i have noticed so far is that disconnect battery before removing o2 sensor and plug back in when and after install of o2 sensor into new headers and installation will not set off check engine light. i don't know why people say you need to purchase new ones with the headers. so far i don't see the need too. Next on my list is a MAF Sensor from URD to get even more power. This was a tedious project. fitting the new headers onto the block took time and i recommend changing to all new upgraded bolts studs and nuts. The sounds is awesome and the throttle response is much better. breaks the tires loose much easier. and you also dont get the sound of back pressure with the long tube ones. Overall very pleased so far.truck is going in for service for its evry 5k service so i am going to have them once over the work and make sure everything stayed tight and check for leaks. I also replaced the head gaskets with newer better ones to prevent against leaks and such. highly recommended. If you have any questions feel free to ask i will be posting new pics when i can take pics in the sun and poss a video for sound. write if you have questions. MAF Sensor and new Toyo M/T's next. Then off to Rousch Creek for some wheeling.
