so i get a letter today from the dmv. im thinking "f*ck, another lame bill" but woeth me i open it and its a late bill from the dmv. i run outside to check which vehicle its from, and its from my 4runner. damn tags expired in april. i received no first letter and was under the impression that the dealership i got the truck from was gonna pay it. so now it has a big ass $88 fee on it. $200 total, damn you shwarzanegger so who is at fault? i paid it off to be on the safe side, but im thinkin someone owes me some $$.

was it written in your contract?

If it was take it down to the dealer with the bill and tell em to cough up some money.

They might have been short of cash and hoped you wouldn't notice.

it is your responsibility to register your vehicle.

Not when you pay the dealer the fees when you buy it, they need to turn in the money so you can get the new tags.

I have had dealers not turn in the paperwork when i have traded in a car before, 6 months later i get a call from a tow yard telling me i owe them 1500 dollars in storage fees. Seems they just sold the car off at auction and never did any paperwork.

Check you contract for the registration. DMV doesnt care who pays it as long as it gets paid. And they probably wont care one bit about the dealer said, so you can forget about getting back the late fee, make the dealer eat it.

Visit the dealer and read the contract line by line.
