View Full Version : How to block neighbors view of my yard?!

OK, long story short, I just moved from Massachusetts and bought a house in the suburbs of Dallas. My lot is a little over 1/3 acre with a pool.
I live in a subdivision by my neighbors house is on higher ground so it basically sits looking over my 6ft fence.
Any suggestions to gain some more privacy? Lattice work (sp?)? shrubs? trees?
I'd love to hear your ideas.

I would start with foliage.
Trees, Shrubs, big flowers etc.

You don't want to be putting up the Berlin wall around your yard lol
Just my thought.

We are going through teh same thing since recently we had a two story house go up in the lot right behind outs (next to and behind, wired i know but thats how it is)

Stack up old cars on top of each other :hillbill:

I vote for trees, but I like Tony's idea too.

The cars would take up to much room. Maybe if I nose them into the ground like those cadillacs, perhaps.
Anyone know anything about Bamboo? I'm looking into that online currently.

tall evergreen trees will do the trick. some type of fir or something along those lines planted near your fence. however, even if you get some pretty big stuff, it's going to take a few years for it to grow large enough to do the job. best of luck!

I'm seeing that bamboo is unstoppable. Maybe in a bucket?
Taller fence?

once bamboo is there - you can NEVER get rid of it - but it does grow fast!

Go in your yard wearing speedos, then they'll take care of the problem for you.

That's outrageous. That will single-handedly destroy this thread.

My eyes!!! and so damn early in the morning too!! Damn you for quoting that and bringing it to the second page! :chair: :flipoff:

What about bamboo on their side of the fence? Actually I'd like to learn more about bamboo for this use. Sounds like it might be hard to manage though.

I've seen bamboo shoots push through thick PVC pots in a garden store. I was thinking about planting it in order to block the view of my neighbor's decrepit houseboat and the ATV that he had on blocks (actually it was up on plastic chairs). The only way to keep it contained is to create a trench with concrete pavers and even then it's likely to break through eventually. You could plant Leyland cypress. They grow pretty fast and are nice looking.

We tried evergreens here, sadly the soil doesnt take them well since its wet. We planted a wild birch we had from our old house-it sprung up like 75 of them in a year or two.
