So I am in class and we are discussing egr vavles.
I remember once when I was looking for replacment headers, just stock,
I had two choices, egr or no egr equipped.
I don't see how the same engine could require it in some cases unless for different countries maybe?
So I was wondering, anyone here with the 3.4L have an egr vavle,
and if so could you take a picture of it equipped on your engine?
Pretty sure all US engines have an EGR valve, almost all cars here do if they are about 20 years old or less.

Constantly variable valve timing has eliminated the need for EGR since the same thing can be accomplished naturally by controlling valve timing (overlap + exhaust gas reversion/dilution), also I have seen a few without variable valve timing NOT have an EGR . . . it all depends on design and emmissions of that particular engine (high combustion temps = NOx production = we gotta "cool" down the combustion temps)

Keith is right on all he just said.
But what i am wondering is why my truck or many other trucks with 3.4l don't have egr yet it is an option?
I would think we woul want it.
I mean I even think I found out what that mystery plug in my engine bay is for.

The EGR was eliminated from the 3.4L on 1996 and newer models.

Jamie! I was hoping you woul chime in!
Thank you for clarifying that for me.
I guess Toyota found it wasn't needed?
I find this interesting, most cars I work on have them-then again not many are repairing cars made after 2000 or so..
I wonder if I even have an EGR on mine since my truck is a 96?

If you have an EGR, you'd see it pretty easily.
See attached pics for EGR locations on the 3RZ and 5VZ (pre 1996).
