  I would run a 1x1 chunk of square tube under the cut line to give the tailgate area some extra support. Oh and cut those frame rails..... Looks good Scuba :drink:

NOW FINISH IT IN TIME FOR BIG BEAR :argue:

Speaking of BB, I might make it just as a day run on saturday, We will see.

I like how your parents won't move their cars so you can work in the driveway.

Wow, that's some work. You need some casters for you welder.

I can't believe you are doing that out in the street. I feel like a redneck just changing my oil in the driveway. Regardless, looks like a good start.

Dude you're far from redneck. Now if you had a dog off of a leash, a beer in hand with more empties in the lawn and a couple of kids running around...

Couple poser pics from today

First, I got a bit more done, Some more tack welds and some grinding, nothing big.
Today I weight tested the tailgate, and it held 225 + pounds without a sound of a cracking weld, so im confident in its rigidity do far..

dail down the welder both voltage and wire speed, you are welding on sheet metal, it doesn't need whole a heat. make the bead a lower profile, easier to grind down, but more importantly, less warp, burn through. see if you can barrow a bottle of shielding gas, flux core is nasty, you won't need much of gas any way.

one more thing i'd try is to cut the exhaust tailpipe, turn it around 180 degrees and make it go through the bed, exit upwards. now you have less chance to get hydro locked at deep water crossing like some of the military humvee's.
