I know we all love to eat (definitely shows for some of us :flipoff:) so tell us your #1 favorite food of all time.

This has to be the a meal you just can't live without and would be saddened if they did remove it from existence! O yeah, gotta explain why you claim that this is your #1 favorite. I'm sure some of ya will have some interesting stories behind it so feel free to describe your happiness!

So with that said I'll start first!

I love to eat! That's an understatement cuz I can virtually eat almost anything. It definitely shows on my belly too. :chair: I'll try it once no matter how disgusting it might be*** but in general my stomach can take some of the funk out there that is considered a great meal! The one meal that definitely hits the spot 10 out of 10 for me is lasagna. I'm not sure why lasagna of all meals though cuz you figure an asian guy would want something that had to do with rice right? (i.e. sushi!)

Nope, just lasagna. Funny cuz when I was growing up we "rarely" had lasagna only cuz my parents had no clue on how to cook anything that didn't include rice. I recall one time (the only time) my mom made me lasagna, cuz she knew I loved it, I took a big bite out of it and tasted eggplant and some other funk (just imagine lots of weird veggies!!! - beets and some other weird stuff) Talk about ruinin a great meal! :( O well... I gotta admit it was funny to experience that but it still hasn't deterred me from saying lasagna is my number one choice!

Notation:
*** - feces and crazy stuff like that does not count!

I used to hate mexican food when I was a kid, but now I love it (as evidenced by my recent mexican food thread). The best I had was in Cancun at a little taco cart where all the locals ate. The second best was in Livermore, CA, a little hole in the wall carniceria where the people barely spoke english.

My wife's favorite food is fruit like watermelons and pineapples because they are super expensive in Japan and she could never get them while growing up.

Oh man this is one of those really tough questions. Kind of like when your significant other asks why you love them and you are to say why without the regular chessy answers.

My favorite food depends on different things. How long since my last meal? What time of year? What time of day (ie. what meal)? Whos is making it? Etc.

To answer the question right out I would say orange chicken with chow mein. Not sure why. It's kind of like comfort food for me. It's hot and greasy and gives you good burps.

I'll eat just about everything and if it's not totally gross I could (and most of the time I do) eat many portions worth at one sitting. Some of my favorites are things that can be eaten anytime of the day, IMO, hot or cold, standing or sitting, etc. These are things like pizza, almost any sandwich, steak, chicken, mexican food and the like. Damn now I'm hungry, good thing it's lunch time.

Toasted peanutbutter sandwich - or the rare occasion toasted fluffer-nutter with shaved milk chocolate bar on it

I got on the peanutbutter kick when I was in college working 2 jobs + full time classes and too poor/not enough time to eat much else. Now it's my breakfast of champions and 2 of them will pretty much carry me through the day till I finish work around 7ish and can get an actual meal . . . speaking of which, it's about time to order my pizza :D

Asian food. I really like Chinese and Filipino food. It's hard to find a good quick Chinese place around here though. I guess my love for the food came from my 8 years spent in Asia (Philippines). Dried fish with steamed rice is good, as is pork bbq on a stick. Sa Cha Chicken is probably my favorite Chinese dish, but it really depends on who makes it. I love rice, and I grew up eating it at least twice a day. Eggrolls are awesome! I'm not a fan of Panda Express. :D

Mexican food. Fantastic stuff, especially the more authentic dishes.

Italian. I love lasagna, manicotti, fettuccini (sp?), spaghetti.

Fried chicken with mashed potatoes. Steak. Really any kind of grilled meat.

I also like pies, especially cherry, chocolate, lemon morang, and key lime.

Lance, why did you have to start this thread while I'm on a diet? :P

Bucket of Steamers with Newcastle or Bass on Tap - No Contest.

Have yet to find a restaurant on the west coast that knows what steamers are.

You should come to the jamboree then, not only for the fun and splash cafe clam chowder, but they also have a restaurant called "Steamers" First thing on their appetizers

Sushi is probably my all time favorite, but expensive (those big Sapporos start to add up after awhile  ), so my realistic all time favorite would be a sandwich. I will make anything a sandwich and will try some crazy combinations. My wife always makes fun of me for my sandwich fetish. My favorite though is probably a brinner sandwich (basically a homemade breakfast sandwich for dinner). Toasted San Luis Sourdough bread lightly buttered, with bacon, tomatoe, avacado, 2 overmedium eggs, and Tillamook sharp cheddar cheese. Oh look, April also made blueberry pancakes, well, go ahead and throw a couple on there as well with a little bit of real maple syrup. :smokin:

My restaurant favorite, is to order an omelete similar to the ingredients above, then I will have an omelete sandwich on sourdough with homefries smashed in there for good measure. Any leftovers in the fridge are fair game for a sandwich as well and I don't ever bother reheating leftovers if I'm only feeding myself (unless I feel the need to make the cheese melt), spaghetti sandwiches are awesome as well as lasagna sandwiches (I know double stacking those carbs probably isn't the best).

See thats the prolem those aren't new england steamers (AKA piss clams) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft-shell_clam No one in CA seems to have a clue.

Funny I was watching Huel Howser the other night, the pismo clams episode. The lady at the clam place says they get all their clams from either NY or WA.

Thinking about going to the Jambo this year. I had a bad experience at pismo about 4 years ago that I am finally getting over. Lesson Learned, don't go to pismo on Thanksgiving.

Peanut butter and banana sandwich

Close second is my wife's red curry chicken.

Funny thing is I hated peanut butter when I was growing up.

Ah, I see, I had no clue! Could be because that variety isn't out on the west coast. Yeah, sadly, the clams are all but gone from Pismo now. :( When I was a kid, I used to go out to the dunes with my grandpa (he never did go out in the dunes though) and we would go clamming there. Those were good times, and come home and grandma would make chowder with the days catch. They used to use local clams for their chowder back in da day when they were plentiful out there. :(

I wonder why they left? Has water quality gone down or is it over-harvesting?

hmm, off the top of my head (and excluding the middle eastern dishes some here may not be familiar with):

- beef stroganoff with egg noodles
- lasagna (my mom's is the best, as is everyone's mom's  )
- honey bbq chicken :D
- carnitas burrito w/ sour cream, lettuce, hot sauce and jalapenos (or banana peppers)

The pictures that they showed on the Huel Howzer (CA's Gold) episode were amazing, there were people everywhere and they were all taking tons of huge clams. I think they said a 7" clam was like 20 years old.

Clams are definitely my favorite and steamers my favorite clam. Looking forward to Clams and Chowder in September.

My all time favorite food is macaroni and cheese. Homemade is the best, but I'll eat the boxed kind as well.

The biggest issue what putting the otter on the endangered species list and not hunting those anymore. Some could be attributed to overharvesting, but they saw the same thing happen at clam colonie areas that weren't open to clamming. The otters are voracious eaters. Here's a good interesting story on why they aren't here anymore (or I should say, not big enough to legally take home).

Steve,

Next time you and Miki come out for groceries, let's hit the South Bay for some El Burrito Jr. in Redondo Beach. When we lived there, that was THE place to go. Totally hole in the wall, cheap, lotsa food, and it was awesome food. I mean, the best. Better than King Taco and you know how much I love that place.

We'll top it off with some yellow watermelon for Miki. We just tried it for the first time from Henry's Market. DAMN GOOD!

Ok, my favs list by categories. Sorry, there is no way i can limit it to one dish.

Korean- Gop Chang Chungol. Roughly translated "gut soup". Its like Korean menudo but 100xs better. Spicy and will put hair on your chest. I have 4 or 5 now ;)

Japanese- Sushi made with clams. When I went to visit Satoshi (of the grill mod fame) 2 years ago, he took me to this place near the famous Tsukiji fish market. They served us a variety of japanese clams that I have not seen in the US. Do you like Mirugai? Then think of something 10xs better than that with unique flavor!

Chinese/Taiwanese/Hong Kong- now thats a hard one b/c there's so much variety. If I had to pick one, it'd be sweet and sour pork but Korean Chinese style and not the watered down kind found in places like Panda Express.

American food- I love burgers. Just love them. They dont have to have any sauce, just fresh fresh fresh lettuce, a slice of beef steak tomato, some green onions, and quality meat. The meat could be a blend of beef, lamb, pork, etc. In fact, the wife has taken a liking to mixing up pork and beef for extra taste and juiciness. To dress up my burgers, i like the western style with bbq sauce, cheese, and onion rings but the shoestring style.

Vietnamese- Nhem Nhuc. I think thats what its called. You take round dry pieces of rice paper, dip in water, and then wrap in savory meats, shredded carrots, radish, etc. Totally healthy, tasty, and nutritous. Of course I love pho (esp. one with a good, oil-free broth), but hands down, Nhem Nhuc is the shizzle

Seafood- Seafood to me is in its own category. I love steamed seafood. Anything. Crab, lobster, etc. But for those of you going to Pismo and passing thru Ventura County, stop by Andrea's Fish House in the harbor just west of the Camarillo mall exit. If its your first time, just get the standby fish and chips. They use a kind of shark whose meat is chunky and flaky like Atlantic cod. My opinion, it is superior because of the meatiness

Hell, I could go on and on!
