I discovered my inner drivers side cv boot was torn over the weekend. What are people using for cv boots? Are you getting one fro
your local auto parts store or are you using OEM? It is a fresh tear and has not seen any water.

I would get a Toyota one. It comes with everything you need where as an auto parts one won't be as strong and will not seal as well. What ever you do, do not get the 2 piece one as it's a band aid at best. I believe there is quite a bit of disassembly required for the repair.

Thank you for the input. I am not worried about the job. I have done enough suspension work and rebuilds it does not scare me.

trdparts4u.com had the complete kit for 29.80 plus shipping which equals 42.00 dollars. My local dealer is getting it to me for 39.00 dollars. I got confirmation that Sonoran Steel shipped the diff drop kit today.

Just one word of caution......doing a CV boot is an incredibly messy job. Unless all your CV boots and the joints are in otherwise perfect condition, it may be easier just to buy a new axle for around $80 and install that instead.

eeek, is that the going regular price for them these days?
Try also pm'ing rafa on here, he works at northridge Toyota and can get us a discount.
I am luck and can get a discount through school at the auto shops near me, the cheapest I can get is rebuilt ones for $25 a pop, which I might do as just spares for when I hit the trails

It just ripped, and the truck is a 97 with only 78K. I have done them before, no big deal.

While doing an oil change on it today I discovered the inner passenger CV is also torn. Guess I will order that side also.

I was wondering the same thing myself....that's extremely cheap for full rebuilt CV axles.

The discount I get at some of the auto-parts stores around me are pretty good.
And no they are not plastic...
Heck I did a full front brake job on my GTI for 50 bucks.
And I have beat the thing senseless since and they still feel brand new (that was 5k ago of course....)

ive been workin on cars for years now and ive had numerous discounts at different places, the avg cost is around $50 a cv. i dont see how a store can physically sell you one for that cheap

Price has gone up $10 since February (When I last checked)but still with the 50% discount I get from Advance Auto they come down to $30 Dollars.
I strongly suggest only using them to get your butt off a trail, they are reman's from Advance Auto.
You Really want them Troy I would be more then happy to figure shipping for you!

And While the comment I just made may sound like Advance has shitty replacement parts, they really don't
About 2 months ago I did the Tundra upgrade with a set of calipers that I scored off eBay for $100 dollars and it also came with rotors and pads.
However one of the calipers had a broken off bleeder valve which rendered it useless so I had to get a replacement, so I stopped at Advance and ordered a reman one, and after core charge, it cost me $109.
So in the end I spent $209 on the Tundra Upgrade with the larger caliper size as well, I have done some heavy hauling, which includes my GTI and also have had numerous long trips.
Its been about 7K now and I have had no leaks or sticking pistons from the Caliper.
Just trying to clarify my slight bashing in my previous post...

Advance parts aren't bad at all, I'm running advance axles on mine and they held up just fine in our harsh canadian environment.

Okay now I have both kits sitting in the garage ready to do a rebuild. I got my gallbladder out last week, so no work for at least another week.
