I been really itching on getting one of these after finding out how well they are made. I have only seen them online and reading over the 13 drawer rolling box today something doesnt make sense.

Every mac, matco, snap on, etc are about 2 feet in depth. However the HF US general 13 drawer http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=90320 says its only 18.5 inches in depth? Seems a little shallow to me, could be a typo, could be thats a fine size or could be thats absurdly shallow.

For the price and quality that I have so far found out via online it cant be beat, but that shallow seems to shallow in depth to me.

Anyone got that model or seen one up close and can comment? I just saw a mac tech 1000 on CL for 200 bucks and it says its loaded with air and hand tools (for that price it might be worth it imho even if the tools are junk, thats a 1000 dollar or more box). I dont have a store to close to me to even check the box out (providing its int he store anyways).

Thoughts?

During my time in the tool truck, I can tell you the HF boxs are junk!! Dont waste your money, Its not a typo they are shallow. Try looking into the Cosco boxs, I took a few of those in as trades and the seemed to be a ok box for the $$. I would also check ebay and CL there is a lot of good deals on the brand name boxs.

just my .02

I'd go with a CL deal. The HF boxes look nice but I haven't done much more than open and close a drawer or 2. It didn't look overly shallow but for the price it seemed nice. I have read reviews on line and folks seem to like it. My last HF ad in the mail was comparing it to a KRL box.

The costco boxes are nice. Personally I'd search CL and wait or go for on the he craftsman sales when the big boxes go on sale for cheap. My CM bb top box was about $110 at one of these sales.

When in doubt go big and you shouldn't be dissapointed.

They are a little on the shallow side, but also check out the Kobalt boxes from Lowes, lifetime warranty on Kobalt stuff, just like craftsmen, and its a decent box, I have one, its nice, and I've never ha da problem, although it is slightly shallow.

Well i called the guy and left a msg for the mac box, he also had a snap on w/tools listed for 750. Some guy calls me back at 4pm and says oh he put down wrong number, call this number. call it and left a msg.

Check the CL and stuffs gone, either to good to be true or someone nabbed it.

I really would prefer a deeper box, but the HF ones are nice and so are the kobalts, I REFUSE to buy sears-they suck. I also dont want to pay the toolman for the next year for a box tbh.

Check with your local tool dealers and see if they have any repo boxs for cheap...

^ that I might do.

Was looking at the kobalt boxes today, just as shallow. Searched online for some kennedy and waterloo, also as shallow. Seems mac, matco or snap on are the only ones who make a deeper chest.

Honestly after thinking about it, 18 inches should be fine. Whats gonna go into it is my wrenches, sockets, pliers, screwdrivers some misc auto tools, etc and other stuff i acquire. I already have pegboards setup for my woodworking and general tools.

X2

I used to get alot of my Snap-on tools that way. First thing I'd ask when I hopped on the truck was what he'd recently repo'd and there were many times I got a smokin deal since he didn't want to carry it in his inventory.
