I need to find the casting number for my heads so I can order remanufactured ones, but I'm not sure where the number is... Is it something I can see while the engine is still assembled and in the car, or perhaps something I can look up by VIN number?
Thanks for the help :ban:

Brian, your head casting number should be visible on the passenger side head, facing the front of the motor, just to the left of the timing belt cover. I attached a pic which should give you an idea of what you're looking for.

So is "5V" the casting number? That's the only number I can find visible anywhere on the head, down by the exhaust manifold on each side. The picture of the "front" of the head you posted is not visible on either side of my engine; it's coverted by the timing cover, the power steering reservoir and bracketry, and some other stuff...
Is there a way for me to narrow down the casting number based on VIN number and date of manufacture? What are some example casting numbers? I see a "28" under your "5Z" in the picture, so is the casting number for your head "5V 28"? If at all possible, I need to figure this number out without having to take apart the engine first.

Ok never mind, I talked to the guy that actually works on the Toyota 5VZ heads, and there is only one configuration (which I suspected) which means a casting number is not required to order. So I ordered the remanned heads today for $620 shipped :wrenchin:

Yes, the 5V is the casting ID which tells you those are heads for the 5VZ-FE motor. The heads were not redesigned during production so there is only one casting ID that I have seen (5V). I'm not sure what the "28" refers to but it may be a date code for when the head was made.
