Funny story. I'll try to be brief.
My 2000 4Runner is at the dealership to be looked at for some engine trouble. The head tech calls me and says "did you come and take your license plates?"
Me: "Nope"
Him: "Oh crap."

The plates are gone (still missing actually) and the windshield was marked as a clunker. Appearantly the GM wasn't very happy with whomever was reponsible for the mix up.
To be continued I suppose.

If they already ruined your motor, maybe you can get a new 4Runner out of them. :D

When he told me the news, there was a brief ray of hope that they popped the motor already. That would havemade my day!

 That's crazy! So they hadn't got to the motor yet? Make sure no parts are stripped off it, as I've heard the people at the dealership have been grabbing parts off them before they get picked up.

I'd just ask for a new truck period. I.e. the most expensive truck on the lot! :)

They don't kill the motors at the dealership. The truck is locked, but then again, I am 2000 miles away from it at the moment so im a little helpless.

From what I've read and the videos I've seen on youtube, they HAVE to kill the motors before they are picked up.

Makes you wonder how often the wrong vehicle was sent into the CFC program by accident?!

They couldn't kill it anyways. They don't have the keys.

Ah,

Funny story. I'll try to be brief.
My 2000 4Runner is at the dealership to be looked at for some engine trouble.....

So how were they going to look at your engine trouble? :headscratch: Did you still have to mail them the keys or something (I remember something happened to it and you were moving)

My mechanic, who is a trusted friend at the dealership, has the keys.
When I said "they" I was referring to the knuckleheads that thought it was a clunker.

Another problem: I've been calling all morning to get it towed out of there an no one will do it without me present, even if I pay over the phone.

If I remember right, it isn't running right now, so it isn't driveable. Plus it has no plates. His friend would have some splainin' to do if he got pulled over in a vehicle that wasn't his and it didn't have plates on it.

Whitey, that sucks about the tow company. I think the dealership should pay for it to be towed to wherever you want. They f'd up and took your plates, the least they could do is tow it somewhere for you. Although, they might mess up again and really send it with the clunkers.

where the hell do you ppl take your vehicles too  you go in for engine trouble, it gets marked as a clunker, and they take your plates??....even if you were buying a new car and traded in a clunker they dont just take your plates from you. call the dealership, speak to the service manager. tell him your 4runner was in for engine diag, your plates are missing, and the vehicle is marked as a clunker. tell him to find your dam plates and find out whats wrong with the engine.

on a side note we just started seizing motors on the clunkers we have at my dealer

People make mistakes. They got my plates back this afternoon. No harm done, no need to be unreasonable. It would have worked out in my favor if they did take it because it needs work anyways.
Woulda made for an awesome story.
Now it looks like I am going to have to inconvenience a friend/family member to be with the truck so I can get it towed.
