Could be a center diff lock also? I'm not too fimiliar with the 4runners

Looks like the orange writing in the correct area for it to be equipped with the factory locker.

It's a 3rd gen, limited with an auto. Most of these (like high 90%'s) had the locker. '97's did not have a center diff lock.

Same thing. All 4wd 96-00 limited I've seen have a locker. I think you could have ordered it without but it seemed like dealers checked all the boxes on the limiteds.

to my knowledge there is no center diff in 4 runners until at least the 99-00 Limiteds...

Ok. when did they put a center diff lock in there? I think charles (calrockx) had one of those in his truck...

I swore I had a good post about this question somewhere.
The concept of center diff lock started in 99 on the limited model 4runners.
In 99-00 the way the center diff was locked was manually by pulling back on the 4wd stick,
in 01 all models switched over to the t-case with center locking diff however instead of pulling back on the stick you pushed a button on the dash which is located were the rear diff lock button would go on the older 3rd gens.
