Hey ya'll, I guess this is my first official inquiry since I joined the site... Every now and then, when I go to turn my truck off, the key will turn to the "ACC" position, but won't turn to "OFF". I can turn it back to "ON" repeatedly and it'll eventually come out, or I can get out, take the Negative battery cable off and it'll come out, or I can put the truck in "neutral" turn the key to "ACC", put the truck back in "park" and it'll come out... I'm 130% confused... Why is my ride doing this? It's random, no pattern to it, but it's happened intermittently for about a year or so... Help! :headscratch:

Yea... 1996, Auto, 151k, 3.4L, E-Locker...

I'm thinking it's an electrical short somewhere, but I have no clue where to look...

Make sure the shifters totally in park and its locking into it. Might need to be adjusted.

Or your ignitions wearing out, but I think its a shifter issues.

Ever try pushing the lever forward more when you try to turn the key?
Do you have a body lift?

To me it's just no sensing park but there are differen factors that could cause it.
Like maybe the button is actually getting stuck down when you push the lever into park.

Just trying to eliminate things :-)

How would I check/adjust the shifter?

Under the truck where the shifter meets the trans is an adjustment. It looks kinda like a long metal loop with a bolt and such that goes thru it iirc.
