View Full Version : Dash Lighting Question

I have two questions..

First off, I have a 2000 4Runner. The lights behind the A/C control panel have been blow since I bought it. So I finally decided to replace them.

I went to AutoZone and bought a pack of the 97 bulbs. When I took the old bulbs out the green sleeves were stuck to them, and ripped when I tried to get them off. So now I have a yellowish/white light coming from behind the A/C panel, while the rest are green.

Does anyone know where I can get the green sleeves? The dealer can't get them by themselves, and the bulbs are $10/EACH (Autozone was appx. $6 for two). And on top of that the parts guy said sometimes they don't even come with the sleeves. He can't be sure that if I buy them they will have them or not.

My second question is dealing with the light behind the switch that operates the rear hatch window. It's also blown, but I don't know how to get that apart to replace it. Anyone done this?

Thanks

for the switch, pull it out, there will be something like a screw, remove that and there is your bulb.

for the sleeves, ive seen colored sleeves at autozone, though i am not sure if they will fit.

Ok, cool. Yeah I remember seeing the screw when I had the dash apart. I'll do that tomorrow.

I checked AutoZone, but they don't have any that small. Plus they only had red and blue. I had no luck searching the internet for them either. If they weren't so expensive at the dealer I'd just take a chance and order them... Oh well.

If I recall the bottom left ones are what you're looking for.

And I'm guessing you're trying to stay away from this but there's always the led swap. Of course you have the hot spots but from what I've seen its a pretty cool cheap mod. I really want to get some bright white action in mine, like the key ring light and all ceiling lights.

Yeah, judging by the size descrition the bottom left ones would sound like the right ones, because the bulbs are tiny. But the bulbs are 97's, so I'm guessing the mediums would be the better choice.

I also found some on Amazon from a company called Auto Meter. I just don't see a 94 from them. Just search 'Auto Meter Light Bulb Cover.'

Thanks for the links. I had no luck finding any until now.

those bulb covers u found on amazon from auto meter. i noticed them mentioned in the YT post too, its the same brand that makes aftermarket guages (tachs being most common)

I'm going to order those once I e-mail them to see if they make the right size covers.

I'll update again once I find out, and again once I put them on. I'm sure they won't look like an exact match color wise (even if they are the exact sleeve) just because the rest of my dash will have old bulbs, and covers, and then the A/C will have brand new lights and brand new covers. Hopefully it's close though.

if you want it all to match just replace all the bulbs/sleeves... none of the parts are very expensive...
