Has anyone had to order replacement door lock cylinders for a 2nd gen 4runner and have they had good luck when you get them? I ordered a set from rockauto.com and the keys didn't work. I called them and they shipped another set no problem. Just got them and this time both cylinders are keyed different and neither key works in them that came in the box. Any suggestions or am I going to the dealer to spend a small fortune.

i wouldnt buy door locks from anyone except the dealer... they can give you new door cylinders to match your original (ignition) key

Replacing locks isn't that common so I don't think you'll find many people who have done it.

when i looked into replacing the locks on my old honda accord, it was expensive. instead, i picked up a keyless entry fob (no alarm) and wired that in. my key locks still worked, but you could tell they were about to go.
if you have electric locks, this might be the way to go. if you dont, have you thought about swapping them in? im sure the parts from the junk yard would be cheaper than new lock cylinders from the dealer.
just my $0.02

Do you need to replace all the cylinders? My sister's old civic was broken into and they messed up a door lock and the trunk lock. My dad got the cylinders from the wrecking yard and took them to a locksmith and had them re-keyed. I guess there is a code for the key based on the VIN and all the guy had to do was look it up and re-key. He even made a new key based on the code. It was nice and there were small teeth on the new key you wouldn't have even knew existed because they had worn off the old key.

No electric anything on this vehicle. I took the cylinders to a locksmith and it will be 32 dollars per cylinder to match them to my ignition key. I think I'll just do that rather than go to a junkyard and take old ones out of a car not knowing their condition. Maybe I should just shave the door handles and put door poppers in. I'd be pimpin then. LOL

Yep, what mike said. The old toy vans are known for worn out locks, and everyone just pulls the cylinder and takes it to a locksmith. I'm going to have to do that soon, just so that I can get new keys because mine is about to snap in half.
I say locksmith, you can get one ones from the toy dealer based on your vin and key perhaps-tho they might cost a bit.
I would do the locksmith, ive had the rekey done and its worth it.
