alexus and i had a blast! it was REALLY nice to get back on the rocks again. thanks to scott for showing up. scuba, you are dead to me now. i didnt get alot of pictures, but i did get alot of video, so maybe one day ill edit it and throw it up here. anyway:

anyway, got to the trail head and aired down by hand (lost my airing down thingies)

a couple of zuks and a jeep came up on us on the trail head when we were about to leave. they seemed to stay pretty far back (i think more joined, as there was quite a crowd for us crossing the rock garden the incorrect way) continued up. going up the switchbacks, we happened upon a couple of deer grazing on the mountain side!

no major snags until i prematurely entered the rock garden (go ahead, make your jokes). had to make a 57 point turn to get turned around and at least pointed in the right direction. as i was leaving i got high centered on a pretty good sized rock, crushing my fuel tank and muffler. after that it was a nice sunday ride. after departing from scott at the end of gold mountain, alexus and i continued onto jacoby canyon and onto highway 18. after that we enjoyed lunch at mountain munchies(mmmMMMMMmmmm tasty!).

carnage list:
trashed fuel tank skid
dented fuel tank
fuel sender reads "super full"
re-aimed rack light thanks to a low branch
rock rash underneath

i would also like to add: to all those naysayers that dont like my snorkel and think i will never use it. today i did. while traveling down jacoby canyon, we encountered a rather deep water crossing. i made sure to walk it before, to make sure i could safely cross. upon entering the water, i was sure glad i had made this purchase! the water, at its deepest, came nearly up to where the tread lugs turn into sidewall!!! we were both very afraid we were not going to make it! luckily the 4runner pulled through and did not ingest any water, thanks solely to my trusty snorkel!!!

Dude I woke up at 9am. and even still, If I had have woken up early enough I wouldnt have been able to track down my MIA valve core stems so early. Saturday took a toll on me, my leg is sore as chit.
Sorry to bail on you and Scott but I was done for the weekend.

Nice pics

seems someone posted in between my original post and this one, but i think its from a dead person

anyway, grabbed some pics of the carnage. anyone want to hazard a guess why my tank reads "super full"? and how to fix it?

If you dented the tank it can throw off the volume of the tank thus throwing off the reading.

And cheating x2. :P

Sean,
I realize this is easier said than done when you have no fuel gauge, but run the tank down as far as you feel safe to reduce the in-tank weight. Unplug the two or three fuel lines and the electrical connection to the fuel pump, drop the fuel skid and the tank itself. Dropping the tank isn't hard, unplugging the wiring took me a bit. I seem to remember accessing the wiring from under the back seat, driver's side by removing an access panel.

Using a wooden grade stake (clean it first) insert the wood through the hole the fuel pump came out of and bang it back into shape. For the sending unit, you probably bent the potentiometer so it no longer makes contact with the rest of the circuit--simply bend it back.

My tank was dented in nearly the same location with the same fuel gauge problems afterward. I have had no problems since the repair.

Looked like a fun trail! :)

Anyone else seeing a "Hand of God" thing here besides me? ;) Play with your edit and take out the rest of the steering wheel and junk that's on the upper left.

HAH!

hey! that "junk" is my cal poly parking pass.

marc, the shirt: i found a tech who is my shirt size, hit him with an SST for a balljoint(it was handy), stole his house keys and wiped his wardrobe out. the girlfriend: yes, a very wonderful, loving g/f!

damage was from setting down gas tank on a big rock. otherwise just some usual brush and such.

It's really not a big deal to drop the tank. Once you've disconnected the wiring and the fuel lines it's only three bolts at the front of the tank and the strap at the back. I can't recall if I had to loosen the bolts inside the fuel filler door, if so I think there are three of them.

That was a nice day yesterday. It was good seeing you again Sean. After I broke off from Gold Mtn I debated what else to do. I contemplated Dishpan for a bit then decided it might not be a good idea alone. I ended up settling for Cleg from the 138 to the 15. It was nice to just get out again. Once I got home I finally proceeded to pull my diffs. I dropped them off this morning to have 5.29s put in which have been sitting in my garage since January.

Looks like a fun trip.

SeanzOrz: I think I've seen your runner around Redlands a few times. I live in Loma Linda. How was Jacoby canyon? I've never run it. Is it challenging at all?
