View Full Version : 4XInnovations Tacoma Tube Bumper Review

Last month (10/2) I placed my order with 4Xinnovations for a Tacoma tube winch bumper. Since there's not much about it online I figured I would do a little review.

First things first, I ordered 10/2 and the bumper was delivered 11/3. To tell you the truth I was expecting ~3~ weeks but no biggie.
Cost was 665 with shipping to southern california.

The bumper itself is made out of a combination of 1.75x.120 DOM and HREW tubing. Weld's look awesome and the bumper seems to be very well constructed. Fit is pretty good, Only one bolt does not line up, And I believe it is because of the accident I got into a while ago. 5 outta 6 bolts aint bad ;)

The thing that drew me towards this bumper more than the AllPro tube bumper is the fact that since my Tacoma is a 99 I have the end of the frame that's the odd ball of the Taco's. If I were to purchase an AP bumper I would have to chop off 3" from the front of my frame, AND I would not be able to use the aftermarket skids I already own without modification.
So this led me to 4XI.

Here's a few picture's

I did purchase the 1 bend stinger, But I dont know if I will be able to mount my lightforces yet, So we will see

I suppose other then the middle where the winch mounts, the approach angle is well improved

Wrap around provide fender protection..

That's all the shot's I got today. I'll get some shots this weekend

All in all, I LOVE IT !
It looks awesome, Flows with the body line's and is sturdy as hell.

Glad you like it Scuba. Now paint it a new color. Please. lol. you're making us look like those primered ricer idiots who run around with thier car one color, and thier body kits in gelcoat white. :(

I third that motion... Or just send it to Alabama, it'd match my truck????

I agree, white is too boring. I suggest hot pink with glitter.

Now, on a more serious note, I'll suggest flat black (to match your grill) or match the color of your truck. I'd lean more towards black, but I think the green could possibly pull it off, just depends on how much you plan on "using" it, if that's the case, then just flat black so you can always 'repair' it!

Looking good though!

Sticking with the white for now. It's not primer. It's a gloss white.
Personally I think the white pops off of the dark truck alot better then black.

Why dont we all go tell Sean to paint his front and rear bumpers and sliders black, instead of the grey they are now..:flipoff:

they are suppose to be silver, and are all in desperate need of paint. ill get to it one of these days!

plus the bottom 1/4 of the truck is getting silver too, so dont get your panties in a wad.

Trust me I like the way your truck looks with the sliver and all that..

Silver is not the same as white. To each is own but I second the pink with glitter.

Nice bumper - one thing I especially like about the 4xInnovatinos bumper is the winch mount, it just makes sense to me and would make me think the winch might stay cooler without a metal tray beneath it (though the metal tray also helps protect from the winch from a bow wake if you drop into a pond real quick . . . then again, what do you SoCal guys know about water :tongueout:)

ever heard of a car wash? c'mon now scuba! :P

bumper looks good... not sure about the white though.. I say it's too aggressive for a small driver :flipoff:

ok now that the bumper is on where the hell are those LF's? seriously man get them up and show us your :bling:

whites the new black. now you gotta paint the slider to match. it looks retro to me. didnt the subaru brat used to have some sort of white bull bar? oh and steve let me know if you find a solution to protecting the now exposed area of the radiator. mines just like your all out in the open.
how about this?

Lance, the lifhtforces will be on in due time.. Still waiting on a factory Toyota switch from the local dealer.. WTF is a car wash..? And how the hell would that pertain to my truck ?

Troy..? The exposed radiator thing has my mind thinking. I think a winch would cover it up nicely ;)
I think I will see what I can come up with for that though..

I built and installed an expanded steel grill to keep the rocks out of my radiator. used 1/4" square rod tack welded on the sides to keep it from bending as easily - it's zip tied to and overlaps the factory plastic grill and has 2 small bolts holding it on the bottom. You can see how I did the sides of it here:

Next thing on my list right after I redo the slider mount points. I consider myself lucky I have yet to spring a leak with all the bead-pebbles I have pulled out lately.

You going to mount up your signals or integrate them into the corners?

About the signals, if you check the 4xi site you'll see the turn signals Adam provides. There's also a handy mount for those signals on the bumper already. Only problem is those signals were backordered. So until those come in it's OE sockets with zipties and orange bulbs..

bumper looks good, but the white is out of place... if you want to keep it white you need to add some more white to the truck... paint the sliders, the rear bumper etc all white and it will look more normal...

Cool bumper! I kind of dig the white, especially with the rear white strip you have going on. Once you get a winch and a white rear bumper, it will start to look less like a football helmet. :)

Here's why I suggested the GSA green..

Here you go Scuba, pick your choice(?): http://www.signalcontrol.com/products/tiger_drylac/Tiger_Drylac_RAL_Powder_Coat_Color_Chart.pdf

First, powdercoating this bumper would he dumb.
Second, if I had to choose any of those colors, it would be white
Third, this thread is meant to be a bumper review thread. Not a critique my color choice thread.

I like the color it is, regardless if you guys do or not. It's different then what everyone and their mom paints their armor. Please quit suggesting colors because your wasting your own time.
If you have something else to say other then the color, be my guest.

So I just did a test fit, And the lightforces do not fit under/ inside the stinger.
May outboard them to outside the stinger, may run without the stinger. Ill update tomorrow

Bumper looks good. From a purely aesthetic point of view, I think I prefer the TJM you used to have on there. However, this one looks like it has a better approach angle and is probably quite a bit lighter while still offering solid protection.

I do agree with you that a winch would hide the radiator a bit and make it look better. Guess that's just one more thing you'll have to add to the wishlist!

I liked the way the TJM looked, But it was made for a 4runner and just stuck out wayyyy to far. It also weighed 100#, Whereas this one is half that
Thanks for the compliments Dan !

Good job on the stinger. Did it come notched? I've only welded tube once and it was small diameter and just practicing. Forget the dealer and wire the lights up, the switch is just one part of the system and takes no time at all. The longer part is routing wire, relay, etc. Take your time, wrap the wire in loom, zip tie everything off, solder your connections and fuse it.

Mike, the lights I won came with a harness so everything is basically taken care of, just need to run the wire and plug everything in. Which will happen Sunday night.

Why is your truck registered in Texas?

Because it can be?
But a better answer. My mom is active duty, so I can register the truck anywhere. Being that I bought it in Texas it stays registered in Texas. And probably will for a while to come..

I only have 3 lights just like Chris. The only difference are the sizes of the lights. Chris has a combo of 170's and a single 240 whereas I have three 240's.

WUT ?!

Ohkay, so back to some non confusing stuff..

Despite apparently coming down with the flu I got off my ass and wired up the lights last night, they seem pretty bitchin but I haven't gotten a chance to get somewhere that's completely dark to see exactly how well they light up the night. My drive home has some nice dark roads that'll be perfect for testing them.. Sadly I forgot my camera.

Naw they were just ornaments when I was out there Saturday, posuer esqe. Plus it was light all day. I only had them on last night for a couple mins while I was aiming them somewhat properly, think I need to move them up a bit more to get them to throw farther.
I wish I had the money for a few more, I may have to throw a 240 in the middle there like kevin suggested, Chris I'm not trying to steal your style.
Not to mention these probably tax the battery enough.. Dual batteries here I come?

Umm lance, you said you want pictures of pismo jambo raffle winners with there winnings, right? So my ugly ass has to be in the picture?
