So, what color lights do you guys and gals put up on your house, condo, apartments or any other form of shelter?
Pics are always welcome!

When we actually have the time and energy in our busy schedules we put up the white icicle lights around the house and chimney.
We usually leave the color for the Christmas Tree that sits in front of the bay window.

I'm planning on putting up lights on Sunday so I'll take some pictures.

White and blue lights definately give a good level of ambiance for the cold winter nights - luckily there's no chance of wintering in the RV this year (it gets mightily cold with only 1" of styrofoam insulate in the walls)

I just put up my 8 strings of multicolor lights today. I prefer the white for outside but my wife likes the colored so that's that. We put white on the tree but this year we're thinking no tree because the little one has begun to crawl and likes to pull herself up on things. I think a tree will be nothing but trouble so my wife is going to make a wreath.

We put white outside (on some small trees at our front door) and multicolor on the tree inside.
Just doing the tree, wreath on the front door and maybe the candle lights in the windows.
Wouldnt do anything but everyones coming to my house this year. No one here wants to even put up a fake tree-kinda sad really.

Anybody try those LED lights? I'd be curious how they compare to the traditional lights. :D

we might try them this year. i was talking about it with my dad. low power draw, no dead bulbs after sitting for a year in a box and being bashed around while being untangled. most LED have lives around 10000 hours or more. also nice that the heat is near zero on them, so no more burned down dead x-mas trees!

I'm waiting for the prices to come down on them. Given how cheap LEDs are, there's no reason for them to cost as much as they do.

I use the Philips LED strings and like them. They use almost no electricity and you can plug something like 63 strings end-to-end. I think you are limited to 5 or 6 strands if you're using incandescent. (Not that you'd want 63 strings but for long runs it's nice to safely be able to connect many together.)

5 or 6? That's for wusses. To keep mine from freezing I plug them all together so the wires stay warm.
Marin said you made some comments so I was on the roof and the ladder Saturday night in the cold and wind making adjustments and cleaning up the cords.

I could practically feel the heat from your mass of wires as I walked by and the lights weren't even on. I knew my comments to Marin would drive you crazy enough to fix it. :D

Yeah 8pm, headlamp, hammer in hand, staple gun in back pocket and a mouth full of zip ties. You should see my hidden "junction" that is IN the gutter. It's a spliter with 3 cords going into it, wrapped in a plastic Raley's bag and about a roll of electrical tape. I know it's good because the day I put the lights up my gutters filled with hail and water and they were still working.

A little mix of both white and colors. The house and palm trees have colors and the lawn is white.

Thanks, it's actually less impressive in person. My lights look anemic compared to the neighbors.

Mine look like the house on the Simpson with a Homer job on the lights. If I wasn't wearing shorts and barefoot I'd brave the 48* air and take a pic.
Edit for pics:
I braved the cold air to snap some blurry pics. Once I get the lights we want and the rest of the bows and crap from the attic I'll take a better picture with a tripod.
The motion light isn't that bright. AUTO mode picked it up real good.

I need to get on the Christmas lights NOW. They sort of lose their appeal when you put them up after Christmas. :D

Mine too except that they are across the street. This is our second Christmas at the house and the second year their lights haven't been turned on.

I had to re put up half my lights again yesterday after the wind storm from hell. Gusting over 50 at the beach damn.... When the power went out all night and all I could see was dark ocean and town the other day, I felt a little guilty firing up the generator to play Mario Cart on the Wii... Only a little though :tongueout:
i'll get light pics tonight
