Not really off-topic, but this is the best place to put this
Please pass this around! Jay has been missing since last week. If you can, please help post this and pass this around or on other forums.
He was last seen driving from Boomtown nevada to Death Valley on 11/27, driving a Jeep Rubicon - black, no doors.

The California Highway Patrol has located the jeep belonging to Jay LaFontaine, but there is still no sign of the missing former Concord resident. LaFontaine went missing over a week ago after taking a trip to Death Valley. His vehicle was located at about noon today in a remote area near Bodie, California.
LaFontaine's family still lives in Concord, they said he was supposed to return home on December 2nd, but he never showed up.
The CHP was searching the Mono County area by helicopter, and located his jeep at about the 10,000 foot level.
According to the Mono County Sheriff's Department, his personal belongings were located inside the jeep, and there were no immediate signs of foul play.

weird 10000 feet and bodie means pretty much the top of bodie mtn....only about 3.5 miles from bodie. seems like a hard place to get lost so there's more to the story then that.
only thing for sure is it backs up the rule of never go alone.

NEVER GO ALONE
The body of a Pleasanton man who was reported missing after failing to return from a camping trip last week has been found more than 200 miles away from home in a park east of Yosemite National Park.A Mono County search and rescue team notified Pleasanton police at 10:30 p.m. Thursday that 48-year-old Jay Lafontaine had been found in Bodie State Park, about three miles from where his black Jeep was found earlier in the day. Lafontaine was expected to return home Dec. 2 and last spoke to his family via his cell phone on Nov. 27, the day he left for the trip, according to Pleasanton police. Investigators believe Lafontaine’s Jeep got stuck in a ravine. Footprints in the snow indicated he was trying to walk out of the area for assistance, police said.
Authorities indicated there were no signs of a struggle or foul play. The cause of his death hasn’t been determined.
Never go alone and always go prepared.
I wonder what his cause of death will be.

Bodie is pretty out there and desolate. Traveling around without doors (even with doors) is pretty cold especially with the weather lately. I'm sure it was exposure. Bummer.

I would guess so myself, being stuck int the cold SUCKS.
IDK bout the rest of you but this whole situation reminds me about being prepared a bit. In my truck box is every fluid you could want for the truck, food, clothing, supplies, etc, etc. I never leave home without stuff, all of it has come in handy at one time or another.

that whole area is like the bermuda triangle for people on foot. lost people have the worst luck. they found a body of one of the german family that died in 96. the body was within five easy miles of a stocked cabin that they had stayed the previous night at.
this guy in bodie was probably no more then 4 miles from bodie when he broke down....just awful for the family.
related to the story, im looking at the SPOT transmitters these days.

Questions answered will be an immense relief for the family, it took a month to find my mom, the absolute hardest month of my life. Knowing she died was when we were able to begin picking up pieces. My sympathy and cheers to Jay's family and friends.
By the bye, it doesn't need to be all that cold to suffer from hypothermia...
