this is on mom's CR-V. the wiring harness that goes to the door connects through the door. the outside connector has 2 broken wires. im not sure how to go about fixing it because of the dielectric grease that is everywhere.

any advise on how to clean out the grease so i can make a repair to these wires? here are some pictures of what im dealing with:

this harness is a branch of the main harness, so i cant replace just this piece with out cutting and soldering in a new connector (junkyards seem to not have any CRV's)

thanks for your help guys!

Only Idea I can think of Sean is removing the metal fitting for those particular wires, finding new ones and then putting them on the wire and sticking them back in.

As far as cleaning the dielectric grease out, I am at a loss...

^Neither animal nor vegetable, it would be mineral that you seek. Mineral Spirits, preferably odorless, and try a little on a rag or q-tip first to be absolutely sure it won't attack the plastic. It's what we use to clean just about everything, including expensive fiberglass and carbon fiber laminate.

Brake Kleen will eat the plastic, don't even try it.

..and yeah, the Honda stuff is pretty much booger in consistency. From the look of it, I would also first just use a micro screwdriver (unplug the battery first!) to scrape as much away as possible and save it for re-use if posible.

I think Norcal has the right idea, MS should work just fine.

To fix the connectors you should imho clean it all off, then take a small screwdriver and figure out how to drive out the connections that are actually in that little plastic block and solder them back on or extend the wires and put a new wire on those and solder the other wires together to it-or use crimp connections, either way thats what i would do. Those stupid connectors do come out, just tough.

scoop out as much as you can and use some "electronic parts cleaner" for the rest

for the repair itself: back out the terminals (a straight pin is my preferred tool for those tiny plastic retainers), solder a short piece of wire to the terminal itself (not too much solder or it may not fit back in, don't let the terminal get hot or the "contact tang" may lose its tension), solder the other end to the original wire

oh yeah, that type of connector might have a "primary" and a secondary terminal retainer. primary is the tiny plastic tab that you get to from the terminal (not wire) side opening - secondary might be a flat bit on one side of the connector that you pry loose and pull out

secondary would be similar to this:

do you think mass airflow cleaner would work? thanks for the info.

i went to the local junkyard (hadnt been there yet) and not a single CRV. i was just going to chop the harness and solder splice it into mine so i have a new plug. i was also going to use silicone to create a strain relief on the wires.

Could always try ebay?

Mass air flow cleaner, IDK tbh..

Isopropyl alcohol will work too.
