Chris, I don't suppose you remember what length shocks you went with when you installed the (1.5"?) ball joint spacers and the cruiser coils do you?

I need numbers to compare to so we order up the right size to match the 1" ball joint and FJ-Cruiser coil setup.
*Yeah, too lazy to disconnect the shocks and articulate it right now to get the extended and compressed numbers.

I'm chatting w/ OME and Rancho techs who don't have any numbers for a 2 to 2-1/2" lift, weird huh..

Here's where I'm at now:

~Shock/Suspension Upgrade
OME N98 fronts, ome n72 rears(?), 4Crawler 1" Balljoint Spacers, OME Torsions, possibly the OME steering stabilizer at the same time.. Not sure if Rancho would be any better and I might be able to get a TLCA discount.

Thanks in advance.

[*Edit]Just had a good chat w/ ToyTec and it looks like the rears would be OME N-86's, just like the 3rd gen w/ a 2" lift..I need numbers for the fronts though b/c I want the entire setup to be OME... Help??

:D Duhhh, saw that, I was hoping you'd know the compression length, stroke and extended length numbers.

I'm thinking of just doing N72's and N98's. Should be fine, I don't need an adjustable rear shock setup with the coils I have.

Stabilizer's a given thing.

Now just to wait for the school refund and birthday $$. :D

N72's are for the rear, you need N98's for the front! N72's are going to be way too long for the front. Hold on, I'll look for lengths.

Everyone gets confused because the OME N72F's have an F in them and they think they are for the front. I don't think the N72F would last long on the front.

Rancho rs9009s (26.78" ext./15.67" comp.)

From Slee's site (http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/suspension_pieces_shocks.htm) and he has a bunch of the different ome shock lengths listed.

Toyota 4Runner - Pre 96 IFS/Rear Coil
Front
N98* | Firm | 15.3" | 9.8"

Rear
N72F | Soft | 21.6" | 13.0"

Just glancing at his page, these would be the closest option to what I run in the rear, but I bet they are pretty damn stiff for our 4runners. Although they are for the front of the other rigs, so they might be fine for the rear of our 4runner

N74L* | Firm | 26.4" | 15.6"

actually this one might be better

N73L* | Firm | 26.2" | 14.9"

Pretty much what I just got from OME.. why nobody had yet to tell me where I could find those number aside from the paper catalog or secret password is beyond me.

N72F Compressed: 329mm Extended: 548mm

N98 Compressed: 389mm Extended: 249mm

So why do you favor the Rancho's and what's wrong with a little forced lowering? ;)

*Meh, I'll just go with the 72's and 98's, what's the worst that can happen right..

By the way, I found that info as the first hit of googleing "ome n98 lenght" and yes I did accidentally misspell "length" in my search and it was still the first hit.

I went with the rancho's for a couple reasons.

1. I use up every bit of travel that they provide (11.11" of travel versus 8.6" of travel). At the time I was unlocked and there were many times that they only way I was able to follow locked rigs was because I still had both rear tires on the ground, where others would be hanging a tire.

2. At the time, the 4runner was my wife's DD and weekend warrior that pulled a full m416 trailer. After a lot of research, those adjustables seemed like the ticket. With the firmness cranked down, they gave a really nice ride on the road (one a soccer mom could be proud of), and then cranked up they worked great offroad and when loaded for camping and towing the trailer. Also there was a huge difference in coil spring rates that people were getting depending on what year/model 80 series that they got them from. Having a shock that with adjustable firmness gave me peace of mind since I had no clue if I would get a firm or soft set of 80 coils.

They've got quite a few tough miles on them now, and my wife doesn't drive it unless she absolutely has too, so I pretty much ride with the stiffness cranked all the way up. Also, the 4runner always has probably 200+ lbs in the back, as it has a big socket/tool set, full spare parts box, big recovery bag, and a big co2tank. If it was empty, the ride would be pretty harsh and I would loosen the stiffness a little bit.

Makes sense then. Pretty much why I grabbed the coils I did, I rarely have the lockbox out of the back, and it could easily weigh 100lbs since I used 5/8 ply for the main framing. I really think the shocks are just old and were due to die since having over 500lbs of gear in it for that trip this past Summer. I like to think for what I am doing, I shouldn't need anything more than this. I don't plan on crawling this anymore unless we get another rig. I'm having too much fun w/ traveling and going fast. (W/O baby in there at the time. :D )

I'm gonna ask the buddy what he's running on this though..metric tires, pretty much 33's w/ a 3" lift via coil spacers, TC arms, and a 2" body lift..

For those asking for info on the black 4Runner, it is a http://www.fiberwerx.com/ front end with the tubework performed at http://infamousmetalworks.com/ .

Contact Joey at Infamous, serious inquiries only please. You will also likely notice on Joey's home page the custom front bumper from GreenTruck's '83 3RZ pickup.

What can I say, there's some pimp rigs around here that have great owners. :wrenchin:

*FWIW I have updated my build page to reflect the lift info we ended up with on mine and Roger will likely be updating his home page and links shortly. I had to temporarily postpone my shocks, but will be looking seriously at choices between OME (*keeping things as close to O/E as possible) vs. Bilsteins or Kings (*if I go all out and debate the TC vs. SAS).

Rumor is it's just a matter of time before I grow out of the 31" tires, we'll see what lands in my lap, 33's will be no issue at all, I just need a pair of 4.88's, and would love a better engine, again, we'll see what this year brings me.

There's already a job in the works, so money will be a little free if nothing goes on with family again:D

Who knows, I might even start racing or pitting again if the right offer happens. ;)

Not ghey in the least. If, say 4WDTO wants to do an article on our local group and any of the specific vehicles I'll support the "exclusivity clause" most magazine's want completely. It was my bad that I put some stuff out about mine and his already and had to pull some stuff off the net, basically screwing myself there with them and TLCA's Toyota Trails, now I need to figure out coverage of a different source. Not that I can confirm or deny any chance of an article. ;)
