I bought it a few days before christmas, it had a 2 week shipping period but it shipped early and will be here 3 days early!

The specs are:
* 27" iMac
* 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
* 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x2GB
* 1TB Serial ATA Drive
* ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive
* Apple Magic Mouse

Now I have to control the urge to check the status every 20 minutes :confused:

SEXY!!! you're gonna love it!

At my office we have 3 24" iMac's that I bought when the new ones came out during the summer and they rock! Definitely not cheap cuz it's an Apple product but it definitely serves its purpose. I'm pimping the LED Cinema display as my secondary screen and it's so sexy I smile every time I see it. :)

I should have my Magic Mouse on Monday so I'm pretty stoked about that! Not sure how it'll work cuz I'm so used to my mbp's touchpad. Guess we'll see. It'll be a good upgrade :)

oh i'm well versed with iMacs, I have a 24" at work with 8 gigs of ram.... You are lucky with the cinema display though!! I just have a regular 23" lcd as my 2nd screen.

we have Magic Mice at work too and theyre OK, takes a bit of a learning curve.

Very excited to see how the 27" looks :D

Looks awesome. :drool: :drool:

Lee, have you gotten Parallels to function right? We had that on some of the macs at my old job, and we could never get it to work 100%. My boss messed with the RAM settings (something about allocating a certain amount of RAM to XP or something), but even though that helped a bit, it still didn't work that great. We ended up using Boot Camp and switched between operating systems that way.

BTW, I love those thin keyboards.

Yup, I have all 3 Windows instances running right now :) Parallels 5 is the best yet... you may have been using 3 or 4 which I heard people had some grief with.

That's actually a keyboard i grabbed from another mac, I kept mine in its box along with the magic mouse.

I will be using an older style full size bluetooth keyboard I have at home :)

still kind of a mess but getting there!

I might switch the arrangement so the iMac is on the left, but I'm used to this configuration from work...

bbedit

cs4
parallels (win7 / xp)

Have you had a chance to compare parallels with vmware? I'm using vmware exclusively and have always wondered if parallels is any better.

Btw your office uses cs4 or is that your own copy? (you lucky dog! I'm still on cs3 and definitely won't be buyin cs4 for a long time...)

Lee

No, I have never used VMWare... only ever used Parallels. Honestly, Parallels just plain works for me. Especially 5, 3 had a few weird bugs, 4 was a lot better, but 5 is an all-star for me so far. Maybe I'll give vmware a shot on one of the work macs.

Yeah my work uses cs4, we basically get whatever's new as soon as it comes out :D Very lucky to have a boss who wants the latest and greatest!

ok so it's been almost a month.

This thing is amazing. I now have Windows 7 installed via bootcamp to replace vista, and thanks to Apple finally releasing software/driver support, MW2 runs INSANELY well. I am able to run at full res (2560x1440) without a blip of slowdown. Literally never misses a beat, loads each level about 40% faster, graphics are amazing. The 27" screen can make you a little dizzy if you're not used to it, but wow.

Anyway, as far as overall utility, this imac is as useful as any other ..I use a 24" at work and they're pretty much the same. Where they differ is how this iMac processes tasks and programs / loading of data and also the way it handles multi-tasking. I have photoshop, mail, ical, firefox, parallels instance of xp, pulsar (sirius app), itunes, bbedit and quicktime 7 pro open right now and you'd think I had only text edit up :laugh:

I am seriously very impressed with this combination of quad core i7, the 4850 graphics card and 8 gigs of ram. It runs like a beast.

I've also got an entire dev environment set up as I recently made a few dynamic php sites for work, and always have our jsp applications ready to edit, and it is an amazing Unix server environment for development.

Anyway, thought maybe some may be curious, so I figured I'd update :)

Well, being the butthead who cant seem to stop spending money that I am, I sold my 23" monitor (pictured above) and picked up this beauty:

http://www.technotalks.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Samsung-SyncMaster-P2770HD.jpg

Samsung P2770HD 27" LCD 1080P monitor / HDTV :clap:

I got it for about 70 bucks off retail in-store cost through a seller on ebay.

The dinky 23" screen next to the glorious 27" was just too big a contrast, I couldn't stand dragging things between screens and watching the quality and color change.

I know I know, I'm insane.
