Hey guys,

So i have a 95 4Runner SR5 v6. Its a stick 4x4 and i recently had to replace one of the heads because apparently it was cracked when i bought the truck. After the head job (where the head, gaskets, and water pump was replaced, I also put in a new radiator in during this job) i noticed that the next time i tried to use my 4x4 the light didnt come on and the 4wheel didn't engage. I asked a buddy and he said that it could be a vacuum hose issue (i'm runnin the stock auto locking hubs) but im not sure where to look to see if the hoses are not connected.

Problem 2: I've been havin some weird gremlin issue where sometimes when im driving (moving) and shift gears the clutch feels like its stalling (like when you're starting off and don't give it enough gas) and this problem will persist to around 3700 RPM. I also sometimes have problems engaging reverse but i was told that the clutch was replaced not long before i bought my 4runner so does that mean its my clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder?

I've been dyin to get back on the trains so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

i dont know about problem 2, but i have some input on problem 1...

first, are you sure the 4wd isnt engaging and its not just the light? get all 4 wheels off the ground on jack stands. With the engine running shift into 4wd and see if the fronts spin. If not, then its definitely a vacuum hose, and someone else will have to chime in to tell you where to look there.

Definately sounds like a vaccuum line or electrical relay problem. I'll try to find a link that should be helpful. It's actually for removing the system, but it should help you to track everything down. Be back in a bit...

This might help

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/add/

If anything, it shows you how to just get rid of the system all together, but it does have pics of everything, so it might help. I'll look for more info....

edit: this one is about troubleshooting the system

Most R150/151's that have anything more than 50,000 miles on them tend to have a little issue of getting into reverse. It is something some of the rebuilt ones even do, it is not the clutch or the syncros, it is the counter shaft spin time. Here's the trick, push down on the clutch and shift into first and just let up a little on the clutch for a second, then depress the clutch and shift into reverse, this usually stops the syncro lag.
