Okay, time to think about your parts bin.
The automatic antenna in my third-gen 4R just went belly-up (at 175K, so I don't feel too bad), so I need to replace it.
Short of finding one at the junkyard (or hunting down the Volvo 240 unit that cants back and mounts to the A-pillar), does anyone have a gen-two or gen-three Taco or 4Runner fixed/whip-style antenna laying around that they want to get rid of?
I will pay, of course, but this way's easier than a trip to the junkyard, helps you eliminate stuff laying around your garage, and I can come back and flame you if it doesn't work.
Cheerio.

Stick,
I do have a chrome one. Check my writeup on 4runners.org on the the Tacoma whip mod. Make sure you have all the parts.

Been splitting logs all day. Feeling manly over here. Eucalyptus is a pain in the ass to split. Hit it like you hate it.
Yahoo, chrome is nice. Excessive, but nice. I don't care if it's turd-colored. Hmmm, chrome might be better with corrosion than turd. Seen your writeup, though, thank you.
It's wheel well day! Think I might do a snorkel while I'm in there. Hell, if I'm doing the antenna I might as well hit the stereo, upgrade that stonking POS too. Crap, the '98 disc-tape combo units have an AUX button, right? Time for the iPod link too.
The antenna motor runs, but it makes the grindy-gear-or-plastic-whip-track-crunchy sound. I'm tired of watching it go up and down anyway, and I run into things a lot, so I'd prefer to go less or minimal with the antenna next.
Hmm, perhaps I could adapt one of those retractable Rav4 antennas... Hey Burgerman, is that chrome antenna fixed or can I manually retract it?
STICKing with complicated

you can just use vise grips on the, external weird crome nut, thingy at the antenna base.

or a flat blade screw driver, lightly tapped
mine was loose enough to remove with my fingers.
Ive used a small flathead many times, works the best imho.

For some reason mines really tight on there. I used some vice grips and marred up the antenna base a little so i stopped...LOL...When i recieve the new one ill just remove it destructively. I assume to install the new one i can hand tighten it or use a flathead like suggested.
Use the screw driver as a punch possibly.
In either case if you need a new one they are cheap anyways.
