i dont know the math involved but a 350 mile range sounds pretty far for a stock tank

You will have to fill up along the way. I can get 300 miles out of a tank of gas (averaging 65mph), and that seems pretty good for a 2nd gen. I'm 2wd and I get 21mpg on the highway, which I think is a bit better than you 4wd folks. I'm guessing you will have to fill up around the 270-280 mile mark. :D
Just my $.02.

i appreciate that . any info helps . this is my first trip in it long distance . I know in a 98 jimmy i would have to fill up around the 280 to 300 mark so i figured it would be close to that

you will have to fill up once.
350 miles / 17.2 gallon fuel tank = 20.35 mpg. you COULD make it, in theory, but is it worth running out of gas 10 miles from your destination? just fill up once, takes a few minutes and is no big deal.

When new I think I could get 320 miles or so out of a tank. I'm nowhere near that now.

I could make it from Charlotte, NC to my buddy's house in Smithfield, VA on one tank of gas. It was just over 300 miles. When I pull into his driveway, the low fuel light would just be coming on, and I usually put in about 14 gallons worth of fuel. :D

i knew i would be driving all highway , so i pulled the air filter out . i drove 260 miles and still had between 1/4 and 1/2 . i put 20 bucks more in at 2.67 a gallon and that put me back to 3/4 so i was good the entire trip . thank all of you for your input

Do you really think pulling the air filter helped? I would think there are much better ways to get a little more mileage out of a truck than ditching the filter element.

no air filter may help a little but any soot or dust and you quickly kill your MAF. Filter is there for a reason. And toyota MAF r some of the most sensitive ive seen working in the parts business.

Hey guys im new i figured since the topic gas mileage can any body tell me. I have a 93 4 runner v6 auto and i only getting 160 miles to a tank of gas. Is that normal or is there a bigger issue. Not trying to go off topic any help be appreciated. thanks.

It all depends on your driving habits, the vehicle spec, and the road conditions.
For 31" tires..
When I was 2wd and Auto, I'd get 13-15 combined.
Now I get 17-19 combined, and both ways I am definitely lead footed.
When I am driving nicely, or long distance, I get 19-21 combined.
Figure anywhere from 220-250 miles per tank on a 4Runner.
Now as for the 160 miles, yeah, something is off somewhere.

The best way to talk mileage is to use how many miles your are getting per gallon. Depending on your tank, the dents, your sender, etc.... one persons "tank" on "empty" might actually have more gallons left than another persons.
When your tank is "empty", how many gallons are you putting in to fill it up?

If there's no dents in your tank, then 150 is pretty low. My O2 sensor went out but didn't throw a check engine light and I got bad mileage too. You might want to replace yours.

thanks guys I'll definitely check into that. I do have a check engine light just havent pulled the codes so might be the o2 sensor.

Yeah, something is wrong if you are only getting 160 miles to a tank.

I wondered if that could happen some times. My milage is pretty bad. My fuel light turns on at 200 miles. I'll pick up new 02's when I install my new cats.

yall were asking me why i would remove my air filter . well i had been driving mostly interstate and luckily in a no real dusty area to work . with the fram filter in i was getting around 250 miles before the light would come on . when i removed the filter i got alot closer to the 300 mark . i probably could have made the 350 mile trip without refueling or at least refueling right when i hit the florida state line . i was unemployed so that trip to find work i had to watch every gallon of gas and stretch it farther than i would if it was just a vacation run . 250 , 300 , and 350 miles on a tank may seem trivial but you you only have a 1-800 number for roadside and 50 bucks in your pocket . you tend to stretch money when you can
